The Occy has two lively Bars with interior & streetside seating, plus a Bistro on the Ground Floor; the award-winning Fairmont Restaurant on Level 2; plus Function Rooms and affordable Accommodation Standing proudly on the corner of York St and Erskine St in the heart of Sydney’s CBD, The Occidental first opened its doors for trade in 1850 as gas lights illuminated the city’s streets and when horse-drawn carriages delivered fine patrons to and from our front door. Our pub was originally a 3-storey building before it was transformed into its current 5-storey hotel configuration in 1927 after a £20,000 investment by Resch's Brewery. As one of the oldest working hotels in the city, The Occidental has high social and historic significance for its long and continuous tradition as an inner-city corner pub. The hotel was beautifully restored in 2022, with the renovations designed to maintain and showcase our famous pub’s heritage because we are committed to keeping The Occidental real, meaningful and alive for communities now and in the future.
