Something I've been slowly chipping away at behind the scenes (for waaay too long to admit to!) is nearly ready!

My new Weddings & Special Occasions Guide is coming later this week 🤍

I've pulled together all the things I get asked about when it comes to choosing a wedding cake - from flavours and sizes to serving numvers, styling, delivery and all the other little details that are easy to get overwhelmed or overlooked when you're planning a wedding.

🤍 I can't believe it's almost wedding season again!

Flashback to one of the sweetest little wedding cakes I have ever made, oozing with blueberries and zesty lemon curd.

Because not every wedding is big, not every cake needs to be big either.

Big or small, I am there for it all!!!!

Sometimes the prettiest things do taste the best!

A simply sweet 6-inch cake, for a birthday getaway spent at the luxurious beach front villas of Chocolate Gannets

Rich chocolate mud cake filled with a delighfully tart raspberry compote and a salted caramel buttercream.

Decorated with a cheery mix of edible pressed flowers from Pretty Produce

Sometimes the best moments are not big and over the top, they are sweet, simple and memorable, just like this cake.

Just a little Long-nosed Potoroo, doing what Potoroos do... hop hopping along.

These little marsupials are the namesake of The Potoroo Pantry and I am pretty lucky to be able to run across them occasionally at Wildlife Wonders in Apollo Bay.

Things I will never judge you for when ordering a cake:

1. Not knowing the difference in serving sizes (coffee or dessert) or cake sizes

2. Having inspo pictures or a vision

3. Conversly, giving me free creative reign - I love it!

4. Being unsure about flavours and what goes well together

5. Not knowing what flowers are safe to go on a cake

6. Asking for a design you havent seen me create before

7. Asking questions

8. Wanting me to sketch you an idea. I don't always do this, it may not always be the end result, and please dont judge MY drawing skills!

Sometimes things don't go to plan.
Sometimes you forget the plan.
And sometimes, honestly, there wasn't really a plan at all 🤪

As the school hols wind down, these holidays I made a conscious decision not to try and juggle all the things. Not to squeeze baking, classes and answering emails between adventures, early morning wake ups, the 'Mum, I'm hungry's and endless refereeing between the two kids.

Instead, I let work take a back seat for a while so I could live life with the family instead. Oh, and read a book just for me.

I am incredibly lucky that my small biz gives me the flexibility to makes those calls.

This arvo was the first time in quite a while that I fired up the oven for some baking - not for orders, not for work... just for fun, with my girls.

One experiment ended in crispy chargrilled pastry disaster (note to self: lower the oven temperature and perhaps don't wander off halfway through...)

The other is currently cooling on the bench as I write this: lemon and raspberry muffins that smell good enough to eat (lucky that).

Maybe that'a how life goes sometimes...

A few things get burnt to a crisp, a few things turn out better than expected. And eventually the holidays end, those emails get answers, the oven gets switched back in for work and plans start taking shape again.
