When restoring a historic building, you'll often hear the term masonry.

At The Church on The Hill, the original stone masonry is one of the building's defining features.

Preserving it isn't simply a matter of replacing damaged sections, it requires skilled craftspeople who carefully repair and conserve the existing stonework using traditional materials and techniques wherever possible.

It's this careful approach that helps ensure the church retains its heritage character while remaining structurally sound for generations to come.

Monopoly has begun searching for the landmarks, attractions and hidden gems that will feature in its Onkaparinga Edition, and the final board will be shaped by suggestions from the local community.

We think The Church on The Hill would be a wonderful addition. Since 1850, it has overlooked the Onkaparinga River, and remains one of Old Noarlunga's most recognisable historic buildings.

If you agree, we'd be incredibly grateful if you could nominate The Church on The Hill by emailing mailto:[email protected].

Whether it makes the final board or not, we're proud to see Onkaparinga's unique places being celebrated, and we can't wait to see which local favourites make the cut.

We’ll never get over the beauty of The Church on The Hill. It’s incredibly rare for us to see the church from this angle so we’re extremely grateful to Mr. Mike Arbon for sharing this photo with us.

With his help, more people can appreciate how stunning our historic church is and why it should be protected and restored.

Some knew it simply as "the old church," others by its official name, and many families had their own affectionate nickname that was passed down over the years.
What did you call it?

We'd love to hear the names you remember, and if there's a story behind it, we'd love to hear that too.

Every memory helps us piece together the living history of this special place.
