Bûche De Noël or a Yule Log is a traditional cake served around the winter holidays in francophone and some english-speaking countries. It’s a type of a roulade or a Swiss roll cake, decorated to resemble a miniature actual Yule log (Christklotz or Julklotz), a specially selected log burnt on a hearth during the winter festival of Yule, an old norse and germanic midwinter celebration.

This log, adapted from the Claire Saffitz recipe, consists of a soft chocolate Swiss sponge, chocolate whipped cream filling, rich and smooth chocolate french buttercream and decorated with meringue mushrooms, stemming out of the decaying tree log.

Best traditions are celebrated through food
Galette des rois, or Dreikönigskuchen is a type of cakes, baked today in many countries. Its shape and ingredients vary in different traditions, but what’s common is a fève - a bean, whole nut or tiny figurine that is hidden inside. After the cake is cut, whoever gets the fève wears a crown 👑.

This parisian style galette de rois is made with the butter puff pastry, almond cream filling, some hazelnut praline and a whole hazelnut as a fève.

Kardemummabullar, traditional Swedish cardamom buns - or kardemummaknutar, cardamom knots, together with their siblings, kannelbullar or cinnamon buns. Made from sweet enriched dough and filled with the coarsely ground cardamom seeds and cinnamon, they are perfect to have with a cup of coffee for a fika (Swedish word for a break for coffee and chat with colleagues), or with a glass of milk.
Fragrant, soft, fluffy and sweet but not nearly as sweet as their American relatives, they also don’t go stale on the next day.

Napoleon cake is as rich as it’s history and as multifaceted as it’s army of fans. Rather than it’s French revolutionary counterpart Mille-feuille that has 3-4 layers of caramelised and compressed puff pastry or pâte feuilletée stacked on the piped сrème pâtissière and covered with sugar glase, a Napoleon cake has more thin layers of the flaky pâte brisée or rough puff pastry, covered in the rich yet light vanilla Crème diplomat and covered with the pastry flakes. It is moist, crumbly with a bite, creamy and soothing, so no wonder that it is beloved by millions and millions.
This version has a reduced sugar content and can also be made gluten free.

Due to many suggestions and wishes, you can now order a pastry from VIY!
If you need a cake for your special event, a pie to bring someone or a cheese tart to indulge yourself, we can make it, decorate it and deliver it to you in Vienna.

This Monday we made a birthday vegan chocolate cake, decorated with strawberries and signed with chocolate.

The prices depend on your wish, size of the product, the date of the order. You can also order our classical items like blueberry cupcake, Torfenriegel etc or if you’re in an adventurous mood — invent something with us!

Dear friends, guests and supporters!
We have to share with you the sad news. We opened VIY a little over a year ago and now we have to close it due to lack of time and health. And instead of continuing caring for VIY half way, we would like to transform the brand into something different and new, which would be more suitable for our schedules. We will take part in flea markets, do pop-ups and we are ready for private orders.

This year was amazing for us, we learned a lot, met so many beautiful people and we had the feeling that VIY gave some starts to other projects and gave a chance for special people to meet each other and that’s the biggest what one could offer. As for many of you this year was also very challenging and hard for us. We’ve started the VIY story on the verge of the last ridiculous lockdown and the vaccination drama ending up in the middle of the war in Ukraine, in economical and energy crisis. We want to thank each and everyone who helped us to gather money for humanitarian aid in Ukraine. Our friends , , , and many many more for helping us, supporting us, talking about us. We appreciate you a lot!

Tomorrow on Friday the 30th of September and on Saturday the 1st of October there will be the Neubaugasse Flohmarkt where we would like to offer you delicious desserts and high quality coffee as always and as well sell away most of the things from VIY.

So if you want to visit our little place one last time, enjoy our drinks and pastries, take some books, buy some of our plants, movies, dishes or even furniture, we’ll be happy to see you this weekend at Neubaugasse 73.
If you can’t come this Friday or Saturday but still want to order some of our food or stuff, write us a message. This will be the closure of a place, but not the end of VIY - we will be back!

San Sebastian Cheesecake, also known as Basque Burt Cheesecake is as soft and creamy as a cheesecake can be. Baked in a very hot oven, it doesn’t have crust and raises like a soufflé, leaving the burnt outside the tastiest bit.
