In ancient times, Armenians believed that blessings spoken during food preparation were passed on to the bride couple bringing them good fortune.

In some villages, the groom's family held a special pre-wedding ceremony where they prepared a dish with minced meat. It was believed that if the meat turned out soft and flavorful, the couple would enjoy a happy and prosperous life together.

Kaghand means month-end. Armenians also call it Amanor, an original Armenian word; “am” means year, that is, New Year. According to folk custom, on New Year’s Eve, they decorate a Christmas tree, symbolising the Tree of Life in Paradise.
