In November last year, something important began in Langa.
Farmers, traders, community kitchens, school representatives, faith leaders, and local organisations gathered at Guga S’thebe to talk openly about food in our community — what’s working, what’s not, and what needs to change.
We spoke about:
Farmers growing food without secure land or water
Traders being relocated and struggling with poor infrastructure
School gardens that don’t always feed the schools
Community kitchens operating without stable support
The daily reality of households facing rising food costs
What became clear is that Langa does not lack people doing the work.
We lack coordination, collective voice, and structural support.
Out of those conversations, the Langa Food Council began to take shape — a community-led platform to bring food actors together, strengthen local systems, and advocate collectively.
Looking back, November wasn’t just a workshop. It was a shift — from isolated efforts to organised collaboration.
The work continues this year as we build structure, expand participation, and move toward practical solutions.
If you care about food, dignity, livelihoods, and the future of Langa — stay connected. There is space for you in this process.
Each one bring one. 🌱
