One more shoutout to SOUP LOVE and why their donation was so meaningful

🍕 There’s a big difference between a “pizza party” from management and a meal delivered by the community.

And I think that difference matters.

Healthcare workers expect leadership to provide the things we need to safely do our jobs.

Adequate staffing.
Appropriate equipment.
Necessary supplies.
Safe working conditions.
Functional processes.
Support when things go wrong.

Food should never be used as a substitute for fixing those things.

🍕 Pizza doesn’t fix unsafe staffing.
🥪 Sandwiches don’t replace missing equipment.
🍪 Cookies don’t solve burnout.
🥗 Lunch doesn’t make chronic system problems disappear.

That is leadership’s responsibility.

But when the community shows up with food?

That feels completely different. ❤️

When a local restaurant, small business, nonprofit, family, or individual says:

“We see what you’re doing in there. We know it’s hard. We appreciate you. We wanted to feed you.”

That isn’t an attempt to compensate for something that should have been provided.

It’s gratitude.

And there is something incredibly meaningful about knowing that people outside the hospital walls are thinking about the people working inside them.

Through Care4frontline, we’ve seen what happens when food is chosen specifically with healthcare workers in mind.

🥣 Something warm after a difficult shift.
🥗 Something fresh when you’ve been running for hours.
🥪 Something you can grab quickly between patients.
🍲 Something substantial for the night shift.
🍪 And sometimes something sweet because, frankly, it’s been a day.

It isn’t always pizza.

It’s soups, salads, bowls, sandwiches, breakfast, desserts, culturally diverse foods, healthy options, comfort foods—and meals prepared by local businesses that genuinely want healthcare workers to feel cared for.

And yes, food matters.

Not because healthcare workers need to be rewarded for doing their jobs.

Not because a meal fixes the problems in healthcare.

But because being seen matters.

There is a very important difference between:

“Here’s pizza instead of addressing the problem.”

and

“We know you’re working incredibly hard. Your community sees you. Let us feed you today.”

One is a substitute for leadership.

The other is an act of gratitude. ❤️

And the frontline knows the difference.

Today we partnered with Care4frontline • Healthcare Nonprofit to show our frontline heroes just how much they’re appreciated by dropping off over 200 quarts of soup at the Sentara Leigh Hospital! Thank you Care4frontline • Healthcare Nonprofit for making this drop off possible 🎉💕

Today’s deliveries nourished the:
- Emergency Department
- Sickle Cell Unit
- Patient Care Supervising Team
- Operating Room • PACU • Pre-Op
- Medical-Surgical Units
- Sentara Simulation Center, where educators train and onboard the next generation of Sentara caregivers 👏
