Came here for a change to get our fix of Hong Kong style Dim Sum. Kota Kinabalu is reputed to serve the best Hong Kong style Dim Sum in Malaysia with steamer trolley going around the tables serving piping hot Dim Sum (Chinese Hors d’Oeuvres) served dipped with English Mustard, sweet chilli sauce or Hoisin sauce.
The Siu Mai minced meat filling was kinda coarse and not compact enough. Steamed pork ribs were good, tender and flavourful in a bed of taro cubes; the garlic flavour is not too overpowering. Taro puffs were a let down as the taro coating is too soft, an indication the flour to taro- mash ratio is too high and can't really taste the taro.
Beef balls flavoured with tangerine peel are nice too.
The crispy noodle prawns noodles was not what I expected. They used Yee Meen, a pre-fried cakes of noodles that they just crumbled on the plate and topped with the cooked prawns in a glazed sauce; very amatured cooking.
Freshly deepfried yellow noodles topped with prawns, some Napa Cabbage leaves, ginger n carrot slices in a runny egg sauce with tapioca starch slurry would be perfect.
