We’ve been featuring a dish that's a bit of a walk on the wild side each month at the Charcoal Pit, and September’s adventure is here. Our Apple Brandy Duck Sausage is lightly smoked and grilled, infused with apples and a brandy reduction, then topped with sautéed onions and orange-cranberry sauce on a toasted steak roll. Fall flavor has officially hit the Pit. The Autumn Apple Burger stacks an 8 oz. Angus beef burger with cheddar cheese, sweet apple onion jam, lettuce and tomato on a toasted brioche bun, served with a pile of fries. A little sweet, a little savory, and in prime apple picking season.

When we refreshed The Charcoal Pit, our goal was to pay homage to the original 1956 restaurant — using old photographs, newspaper articles and other pieces of our history to recreate as many details as possible- from the checkered flooring and penny tile to the custom UFO lighting you see today.

And, of course, the jukeboxes.

The jukeboxes that were in the restaurant at the time of renovation were later models, primarily from the 1970s and ’80s, and were no longer in working condition. To bring that part of the experience closer to the original look of The Charcoal Pit, we replaced them with completely refurbished, authentic 1950s Wurlitzer and Rock-Ola wall boxes connected to a modern FREE PLAY digital queue system.

Unfortunately, they weren't prepared for the amount of use they received. The boxes were breaking faster than we could repair them, and the digital system struggled to keep up.

Enter Terry Swords of

Over the past year, Terry has individually restored each wall box and completely rebuilt the digital system behind them — and we're FINALLY back in working order!

Moving forward, Terry will also be visiting us on a scheduled basis to inspect the boxes, make any needed repairs and keep everything running as it should.
