While I was out selling tacos last night , I ran into my advocate from when I first moved to Wichita. ❤️
When I first got here, there was a program for students who had recently arrived from other countries. She was always there to help me get pencils, notebooks, and whatever I needed for school. If I missed school, she would check on me and ask what was going on. She was one of those people who showed up for me during a time when I really needed it.
Today, while I was serving tacos, she looked at me and said, “Remember when you used to cry because you thought you weren’t going to be somebody in life?”
And that made me tear up. 🥹
I had almost forgotten that version of myself. I had forgotten how hopeless I felt when I first moved here, not knowing anyone, not knowing how anything worked, and wondering what my future would look like.
Life has been a roller coaster, and it continues to be one. There are still so many things I want to accomplish and so much growing left to do, but today reminded me of how far I’ve come.
The little girl who once cried because she was afraid she would never become somebody is now out here building her own business, serving her community, and chasing dreams she once couldn’t even imagine.
I still have a long way to go, but I couldn’t be more excited to see what the future holds. ❤️
Sometimes we’re so focused on where we’re trying to go that we forget to look back and appreciate how far we’ve already come.
If you’re in a season of your life where you feel lost, please don’t give up on yourself. One day, you might look back and realize you’re living a life your younger self once only dreamed of. 🥹❤️
