How the Mountains Raised Me

The mountains raised me where the hills roll high,
Where the hollers run deep and the creek waters fly.
Where front porches hold stories, and neighbors hold tight,
And supper tastes better when shared every night.

I was raised on hard work, on faith and on pride,
With these old Kentucky mountains always by my side.
I learned that you help when somebody is low,
And you give what you have, even when you’ve got no more.

I learned that a handshake can still mean your word,
That kindness speaks louder than anything heard.
That family is everything, and home ain’t a place.
It’s the people you love and the memories you make.

These mountains taught me to stand when life gets rough,
To keep on climbing when the road gets tough.
And wherever this life may carry me to,
A piece of these hills will always come through.

So when I fire up the smoker and the wood starts to burn,
I’m carrying the lessons that these mountains taught me to learn.
A little smoke, a little soul, and a whole lot of pride.
That’s what it means to have Kentucky running inside.

Because the mountains didn’t just raise me…
They made me. 🏔️❤️
