The popular monthly LATIN JAZZ @ MONDO music series brings to you a special & unique flamenco jazz fusion performance on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at 8:00pm at the cozy MONDO concert venue, located at 426 Springfield Avenue in downtown Summit, NJ. Come to enjoy an evening with The Barbara Martinez Group in concert. This exciting group will perform their special jazz fusion sound that has been gaining popular acclaim in NYC and beyond for the past few years. Vocalist and dancer Barbara Martinez will be joined on stage by guitarist Cristian Puig, pianist Gonzalo Grau and percussionist Guillermo Barron.

Barbara Martinez grew up performing in New York City. Originally from Venezuela, she comes from a lineage of Argentinian tango singers, including her grandmother Morenita Rey and great-aunt and renowned actress Libertad Lamarque. For almost 20 years Barbara has worked as a dancer and singer with several flamenco dance companies, as well as productions of Carmen at the Metropolitan Opera, where she sang as a child.

In 2010, Barbara performed to a sold out house at Carnegie Hall/Weill, singing an eclectic repertoire of flamenco, Latin and world music with a magnificent group of musicians. She has appeared in the documentary Sobre Las Olas A Story of Flamenco in the U.S. by Carolina Loyola-Garcia and the photography exhibit entitled 100 Years of Flamenco in New York at the NY Performing Arts Library.

Currently Barbara sings for flamenco dance companies like Carlota Santana Flamenco Vivo, Pasion y Arte, A Palo Seco, Sol y Sombra and often with Juanito Pascual in Boston. She also performs as a soloist with acclaimed flamenco and jazz musicians, bringing a lush and eclectic repertoire of flamenco, jazz and Latin, always interspersed with dance.

NEXT EVENT TO SUPPORT TEATRO Sí

The popular monthly LATIN JAZZ Mondo Summit music series brings to you a special concert event on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at 8:00pm with award winning bassist Alexis Cuadrado & his Trio of Words, featuring Chilean jazz vocalist Claudia Acuña and award winning Chilean pianist & composer Pablo Vergara. Teatro Sí brings to you this cultural opportunity on stage at the unique & cozy Mondo Summit venue, located at 426 Springfield Avenue in downtown Summit, NJ.

Barcelona-born and Brooklyn based bassist Alexis Cuadrado is an award winning composer, producer, and educator. His compositions show a unique voice that draws from the crossover of Jazz, Flamenco and New Music, exploring the confluence of the Spanish and American cultures. His output as a composer has peaked in recent years, premiering over a dozen commissioned works. He has published 6 albums of original work, composed multiple film scores and recently produced music for the public radio show "The New Yorker Radio Hour" which he recorded exclusively on double bass.
Alexis has also exceptional credits as a performer, with recording and live appearances at venues that range from Carnegie Hall to numerous international jazz festivals and clubs.

Vocalist Claudia Acuña frequented major Santiago, Chile jazz clubs as a performer, sitting in on sets with local musicians and meeting luminaries like Wynton Marsalis, Michel Petrucciani and Danilo Perez. In 1995, she moved to New York City to pursue her career with regular performing dates at renowned venues; Smalls, Sweet Basil, Zinc Bar, Metronome and others. Claudia met acclaimed bassist Avishai Cohen, with whom she collaborated on a demo recording that earned Acuña a contract with Verve Records. Cohen also worked with her on her debut album The Wind From The South, released by the Verve label.

Producer, pianist and composer Pablo Vergara is an award-winning musician who has performed across four continents. A classically-trained pianist in his native Chile, Pablo moved to New York City to study with some of his jazz heroes like Barry Harris, Ron Carter and Bruce Barth. Since then he has worked with artists like saxophone legend Gato Barbieri, Grammy winners Dave Valentin, Paquito D'Rivera and others.
Vergara composed and produced the score for Alejandro Fernandez Almendras's ¨To Kill A Man¨, winner of the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance Film Festival and Dutch Circle of Film Critics Award at Rotterdam Film Festival. Vergara also produced and performed the piano music score for Alejandro Fernandez feature film "By The Fire" featured at major festivals around the world, including San Sebastián, Toulouse and San Francisco.
Performance credits include Newport Jazz Festival, Lincoln Centers Avery Fisher Hall, Washington DCs Kennedy Center, Istanbul Is Sanat, Paris' Le Zenith, New York's Central Park Summer Stage and Australia's Sydney Festival, amongst many others.

The popular monthly LATIN JAZZ @ MONDO music series brings to you a special concert event with two time Latin Grammy nominated saxophonist Julio Botti and his South American Jazz Project on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at 8:00pm. Teatro Sí brings to you this cultural opportunity at the stage at the unique & cozy MONDO venue, located at 426 Springfield Avenue in downtown Summit, NJ.

Julio Botti (saxophone, clarinet and flute player) was born in Bell Ville, Argentina. In 1996 he graduated from "Escuela de Musica Popular La Colmena" in Cordoba, Argentina, and went on to study classical saxophone in Cuba at "La Escuela Nacional de Arte de La Habana". From Cuba he moved to Madrid, Spain where he recorded various albums and took to teaching in various parts of Europe and South America. Most recently he has been dedicating his time to NYC public schools as a woodwind teacher.

Julio Botti was nominated for a Latin Grammy at the 14th and 17th annual Latin Grammy Awards for Best Tango Album "Tango Nostalgias" in 2013 & "Sax to Tango" in 2016.

Julio Botti has taken his love of South American rhythms and modern jazz and created an electrifying new quartet that fuses the ethnic rhythms of the Southern Cone with Jazz.

Argentinian saxophonist Julio Botti is joined by the South American Jazz Project, including a quartet of three other young forces in the New York City jazz scene; Andrew Baird (guitar), Eduardo Withrington (keys), and Tiago Michelin (drums).

HELP SUPPORT TEATRO Sí - Latin Jazz Series @ Mondo
This Saturday - A special CD release tour concert with the popular BOSSA BRASIL® QUARTET comes to the popular monthly LATIN JAZZ @ MONDO music series on Friday, June 24, 2017 at 8:00pm. Teatro Sí brings to you this cultural opportunity as accomplished Brazilian jazz drummer Mauricio de Souza and his BOSSA BRASIL® musicians return to the area with their critically acknowledged sounds at the stage at the unique & cozy Mondo Summit venue, located at 426 Springfield Avenue in downtown Summit, NJ.

Mauricio is joined for this performance by accomplished musicians; Anton Denner on alto sax, Bob Rodriguez on piano, and Gary Mazzaroppi on bass as they celebrate the music on the recently released TRAJETORIAS CD recording plus other BOSSA BRASIL® favorites.

Mauricio de Souza has been performing and directing his own groups for the past 13 years. Originally from Brasilia, Brasil, de Souza has settled in northern New Jersey. A pupil of Joe Morello, Mauricio easily transitions between straight ahead jazz and Brazilian jazz. As a band leader, de Souza has released three commercial albums including the latest TRAJETORIAS recording and has performed in prestigious venues and festivals in New York, New Jersey and beyond..

In New York, de Souza has been heard at The Blue Note (with his group, Bossa Brasil®), performed monthly at Garage Jazz Club for several years, and has appeared at Smoke Jazz Club, Smalls Jazz Club, Lenox Lounge, Saint Peter's Church, Kitano Hotel, Bar Next Door, Whitney Museum, New York Polish Consulate, Cutting Room, Via Brasil, SOB's, New York Athletic Club, and Bubby's (Brooklyn) among many others.

In New Jersey, de Souza has performed at NJPAC's Sounds of the City, Trumpets Jazz Club (Montclair), Priory (Newark), Cornerstone (Metuchen), Salt Creek Grille (Princeton), Deltas (New Brunswick), Cecils Jazz Club (West Orange), Tomaso's Jazz Room (Edgewater), Cross Roads (Garwood), Chico's House of Jazz (Asbury Park), Mohawk House (Sparta), Giamano's (Bradley Beach), Moonstruck (Asbury Park), and Museum of Early Trades and Crafts (Madison) to name a few.

In Philadelphia, he has been heard at Chriss and Ortliebs Jazz clubs. De Souza has also performed at Cubata in Waterbury, Connecticut and Lily Pad in Massachusetts.

Festival appearances include: 2016 Festival International de Jazz de Québec, 2012/2013/2015 Westfield's Sweet Sounds Downtown Jazz Festival, 2012 Morristown's Music Without Borders, 2011 NJPAC's Sounds of the City, 2011 Morristown's First Night, 2011 Morristown Festival, 2010/2011 Keyport International Festival, 2011/2012/2013 EAP Hispanic Heritage Month Lunchtime Series, 2008/2009 Red Bank Jazz and Blues Festival, 2006/2007/2008/2009/2010 Church St. Music Festivals (Montclair, NJ), 2009/2010 Journal Square Summer Series (Jersey City), 2009 Long Branch (NJ) Jazz and Blues Festival, 2007/2008 Artes Latinas Festival (Westampton, NJ), 2005 Burlington County (NJ) Music Festival, the 2005 Chester (NJ) Music Festival, and the 2004 Campbell Music Festival in Camden, NJ.

De Souza's previous albums, "Here. There..." and "Different Directions" have achieved high critic and public acclaim. Both albums were covered in Jazz Week and were featured on WBGO, Sirius XM, Pandora, Music Choice, and numerous radio stations in the US, Canada, Brazil, Canary Islands and Venezuela.
2016 brought the release of de Souza's third commercial album, Trajetórias. It features Bossa Brasil® in a live concert at Galeria West in Westfield, NJ. The repertoire highlights de Souza's arrangements of compositions by Tom Jobim, Milton Nascimento, Hermeto Pascoal, and Pat Metheny. Trajetórias is currently being played on radio stations in the US, Canada, and Brazil. For the opening CD release concert at Saint Peter's Church in New York City, de Souza was featured in the January, 2017 issue of Hot House Jazz Magazine. The album has also been reviewed by Scott Yanow (Jazz Journalist/Historian/Author).
Mauricio has also been featured in numerous publications, including the cover of Hot House Jazz Magazine, Jazz Times Magazine, Modern Drummer Magazine and Blog, New York City Jazz Record, Jazz Inside New York, Revista Gente, The Star Ledger and others.
