DogwoodPottery

DogwoodPottery Wheel thrown and hand built pottery in stoneware and porcelain. All pieces are non-toxic, food safe, oven, dishwasher, and microwave safe.

I take great pride in making items that are functional as well as beautiful. Each item is truly unique since I do not produce a large volume of pots. I love the challenge of trying new techniques, creating new glazes and creating pieces that make people happy.

Birdbath, brightens the garden and hopefully makes the birds happy. It is on a stand but can be hung with chains added using the holes. I haven't figured out a way to mail it. Postage will be expensive but I can deliver it locally.

An Ikebana vase is a wonderful way to display blooms from your garden. Ikebana is a Japanese floral art form emphasising blooms, stems and leaves. You can follow the rules or add flowers to please yourself. It will hold tall or short stems by pushing the stems into the floral frog or pin holder that...

The only flowers blooming right now are daffodils and forsythia. The daffodils have hollow stems that won't stay upright on the pins of my Ikebana vase. I put a wooden skewer (see one in the picture) into the hollow stem, broke it off to length and the flower stays upright on the pins. Hooray!!

This Ikebana vase and one other are on sale at my Etsy shop at:

Picture 1 - The finish yarn bowl that I just put on Etsy. Here is how it was made. Pic 2 - After the pot had been fired one time, I loosely drew the flowers in pencil then used underglaze to add the yellow center with black dots around it. Pic 3 - I have added the pink dots around the black ones using the squeeze bottle in the picture. Pic 4 - I added the turquoise dot in the center from the bucket of glaze. Pic 5 - When everything dried, I painted the flowers with blue colored wax. After the wax dried I dipped the pot in the turquoise glaze bucket. The wax resists the glaze which covers everywhere else. The wax and the pencil marks look ugly now but they will burn out in the firing leaving a white flower (the color of the clay) with a decorative center. The bowl is ready for the second firing.

New yarn bowl listing on my shop on Etsy.com. I am starting with yarn bowls as I build up my inventory after Christmas. I was completely out of yarn bowls! I have several available now.

I threw this white stoneware bowl on the wheel and altered it to be a yarn bowl. The bowl was fired twice in my kiln. Brown and beige glaze
