Y’all know we don’t usually respond to folks in these streets causing issues. 😂 We usually keep it moving, mind our business, and focus on JMT. But we tried, and we’re human too, so let me respond this ONE time.
I received a screenshot of Couple’s Cuisine bringing JMT into a conversation regarding a less-than-desirable review they received.
Let me make this part VERY clear: the review was specifically about Couple’s Cuisine, their business, and that customer’s experience with THEIR business. The review was not about JMT Sweets, JMT Vegan Eats, or anyone else. We had absolutely nothing to do with it.
Dacia stated that she was confused and didn't know what to tell people regarding JMT, so we thought the simplest and most respectful solution was to answer that concern ourselves. We responded:
> “Please refrain from mentioning JMT Sweets and JMT Vegan Eats in any of your conversations. Anyone interested is free to call and we are more than happy to answer all questions. This will keep down any confusion when it comes to our small business. Thank you in advance. Be blessed.”
We did not argue with her statement. We did not address whether what she said was true or false. We simply asked that our businesses not be included in the conversation and that anyone confused about JMT be directed to JMT.
We genuinely believed that was the best option.
Instead, our comment was deleted, we were blocked, and Couple’s Cuisine still responded:
> “And, if people can't handle the truth 😉 have the life you deserve. Can you tell I'm over it? All the fakeness. Can't hide you even posted it on your business page. Don't shoot the messenger. 👍”
And THAT is where we're confused. 🤦🏽♀️
What truth were we supposedly unable to handle? We didn't dispute the statement. We didn't ask anyone to hide anything. We didn't attack anybody. We simply said: Please stop mentioning our businesses, and if someone has questions about JMT, send them to us.
If you're confused about what to tell people about our business, wouldn't directing them to us be the easiest solution?
Also, thank you to the customers who keep sending us screenshots. 😂❤️ Y’all always have our backs, and we love you for that.
Now, since JMT has been brought into this publicly, let's clear up the actual facts.
It is NO SECRET that I have a blended-food family, just like many of our customers.
Our children owned JMT Sweets Kids and decided they wanted to offer options that were not vegan. I FULLY SUPPORTED THEIR CHOICE. Their autonomy is their right. I don't need permission to be a supportive parent.
There was ONE trial at the store involving a few prewrapped, non-vegan sandwiches that were prepared off-site and placed in their own designated refrigerator. They were not prepared or cooked by JMT Vegan Eats, and there was no opportunity for cross-contact with our food.
And then somehow grown adults ended up cursing at CHILDREN on a page literally named JMT Sweets Kids.
Adults.
A 14-year-old. A barely 16-year-old. And a 19-year-old with executive and cognitive functioning delays.
Y’all…have you lost your minds?
I digress. Moving on.
We ultimately made the decision, due to slower business and because we wanted to continue supporting the vegan community, to keep JMT Vegan Eats completely vegan and completely separate the businesses.
JMT Sweets is now a vegetarian home-based bakery. JMT Vegan Eats is an ALL-VEGAN café and food truck.
And if you know our story, you already know we didn't start here.
We originally started as a home-based bakery using animal byproducts. We launched a mobile meat-based business. After experiencing health improvements when we moved toward a plant-based diet, our journey eventually led us to converting JMT Vegan Eats into an all-vegan business.
WE ARE ABSOLUTELY NOT ASHAMED OF OUR JOURNEY.
Not one bit.
Now, if somebody would like to start paying these bills AND making demands, Ivory is available to be taken for ransom. 😭😂
That's a joke, y’all.
But if you want to support a vegan business that shows love, tries to fix mistakes—even before you catch the mistake—will literally call you and tell you WE messed something up and then fix it, gets nervous when we have to say no, hates raising prices, and sometimes has to make changes because we're normal people trying to run a small family business…come see us.
And please support the other vegan businesses throughout Hampton Roads too.
We don't have an issue with other vegan businesses. We love seeing vegan businesses succeed, and we recommend other vegan businesses to our customers ALL THE TIME. If JMT isn't for you, we'll gladly point you toward somebody who might be a better fit.
There's enough room out here for everybody to eat.
Now, if you don't want to read Ivory's whole book 😂:
The review in question was specifically about Couple’s Cuisine and a customer's experience with Couple’s Cuisine. It had nothing to do with JMT.
JMT Sweets is a vegetarian home-based bakery. JMT Vegan Eats is an all-vegan café and food truck. JMT Vegan Eats has never cooked non-vegan food on its premises. Our blended-food families can simply pick up their separate orders from one convenient location.
Dacia/Couple’s Cuisine, please leave JMT Sweets and JMT Vegan Eats out of your conversations. If anyone has questions about the dynamics of our businesses, send them directly to us. We'll answer them.
That's it. That's the response.
And because I already know how social media works: disagreement is fine. Rudeness and disrespect are not. Anybody who feels the need to come on our page being rude or disrespectful will simply be blocked.
I ain't got no time for that. 😂
Now we're going back to feeding people. 🌱❤️
