Quick story:

One of my clients had been using a 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝘀𝗵 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 for over a year—no issues, no complaints.

But recently, Visa flagged them for 𝗻𝗼𝗻-𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 and hit them with a 𝗦𝟭,𝟱𝟬𝟬 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗲.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘄𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴?

Over time, things slipped:
❌ They took down the required signage
❌ New staff weren’t trained properly
❌ Receipts were formatted incorrectly—making it look like a surcharge

They had to stop everything, fix the issue fast—and eat the $1,500 cost.

𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲’𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘁𝗵:
Visa is cracking down—especially on restaurants using cash discount or surcharge setups that don’t meet their rules.

I’m seeing more processing companies stop mailing monthly statements and push merchants to an online portal instead.

That means another website, another username and another password to remember. The result is that many business owners stop reviewing their statements regularly—and rate increases can go unnoticed.

This merchant’s processing rate increased from 𝟬.𝟱𝟬% 𝗶𝗻 𝗔𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝟮.𝟮𝟱% 𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝘆.
