I photographed these things before the rain got to them, before the air went out of them, before they were put in a box in the back of the shed. The next year, some returned and others disappeared.

Now I find myself studying the streets and homes as closely as the ghosts. My kids are grown, the town has grown, and I’m searching for what else we left outside.
