Farmers markets look simple from the other side of the table. Show up, set up, sell coffee. Easy, right?
Not quite. There’s the early alarm, loading the car, hauling tables and gear, setting up in the heat, keeping an eye on the weather, figuring out logistics, breaking everything down, and hauling it all home again.
And then there are the customer interactions, the kind ones that make the long day worth it, and the occasional ones that leave you thinking, “Well… that was something.”
Yesterday, someone asked me where the bathroom was. I honestly wasn’t sure. When I said so, she laughed and replied, “Sorry you’re not a local,” before walking away.
A tiny moment, but a good reminder that markets can be unpredictable. Some are wonderful experiences. Some are harder. Every small business has its own version of the long setup, the slow hour, the weather stress, the awkward interaction, and the emotional roller coaster of showing up anyway.
So here’s to the customers who are patient, curious, encouraging, and happy to support a small business. And to the other vendors doing the early mornings, heavy lifting, and figuring-it-out-as-we-go work right alongside us.
We see you. And we appreciate you more than you know. ☕️
