The Little Free Pantry is officially open, and we truly hope people will make good use of it.

It's located at 103 West Laurel, in Sutton. Yes, the house with the 6 foot rooster out front!

We created this pantry because access to food should never depend on whether someone feels comfortable asking for help. Sometimes the grocery budget simply doesn’t stretch far enough. Sometimes an unexpected bill hits. Sometimes a family just needs a little help getting through the week. Whatever the reason, everyone deserves to have food in the house.

We also wanted the pantry to be private. We cannot see what anyone takes—the view is intentionally blocked, and that is exactly why we chose where to put it outside our house. You don’t have to knock on the door, explain your circumstances or ask anyone for permission. Simply stop by, take what you need and go on with your day. No questions. No judgment. No shame.

The pantry is for our community. If you need something, please use it. If you have something to spare, you are welcome to help keep it stocked. We hope it becomes a place where neighbors quietly take care of one another—because everyone needs a little help sometimes, and no one should have to feel embarrassed about needing food.

THE LITTLE FREE PANTRY IS OPEN!

It is not exactly overflowing yet, but there is food inside and it is officially open!

If you need something, please take it. No questions, no judgment and no explanation needed.

If you have a little extra to share, donations of nonperishable food, personal-care products, cleaning supplies and household necessities are always welcome. Donations can be put right inside.

It may be starting small, but this is how good things begin—one can, one box and one neighbor helping another. ❤️

We are so excited to be sponsoring a hole for Wacky Golf in support of the Sutton Community Home!

We’ll be Hole 9—the house at 103 W. Laurel with the giant chicken. You really can’t miss it. 😂

Saturday is also the day we are reopening the Little Free Pantry, and we would love some help filling it! If you’re coming by for Wacky Golf—or just happen to be in the neighborhood—please consider bringing a donation.

Nonperishable food, hygiene products, cleaning supplies, paper products and other household necessities would all be greatly appreciated. Even one or two items can make a difference when a community comes together.

We’re excited for a fun day supporting the Sutton Community Home while also helping stock the Little Free Pantry for our neighbors. Come throw some axes, meet the giant chicken and help us fill the pantry! ❤️

Reopening the Little Free Pantry on Saturday, September 19, really matters to me.

The price of nearly everything has gone up. Groceries, utilities, gas and all the ordinary expenses of simply getting through the week are taking a bigger bite out of family budgets. Sometimes people just need a little help making everything stretch until payday.

That is what this pantry is here for.

A box of pasta, a jar of sauce, a can of soup or a tube of toothpaste may seem like a small thing, but to a neighbor who needs it, it can mean one less worry that day.

Brown’s Grocery Store has some wonderful pantry staples on sale this week. If you are able to pick up a couple/few extra items while you shop, donations (which are so so so appreciated) may be left at 103 West Laurel Street on the porch.

None of us can fix everything for everyone, but together we can make life a little easier for someone. That is what neighbors do. ❤️

The Little Free Pantry will reopen on Saturday, Sept. 19.

I have gone back and forth about reopening it. I even questioned whether I should do it if I could not fund everything myself.

When I first opened the pantry, I paid for most of what went inside, with some wonderful people occasionally bringing items to help. I loved being able to do that. But groceries cost more now, money is tight for nearly everyone and the reality is that keeping it fully stocked by myself would be difficult.

Then I reminded myself that accepting help does not make the pantry any less meaningful. Maybe it simply means it is time for it to become more community based.

I plan to continue paying for most of what goes inside. I will also do the shopping, watch what is being used and take care of stocking it. But if others would like to add an item or two occasionally, it would help keep the pantry available for the people who need it.

The Little Free Pantry does not come close to doing what The Bread Box does for our community, nor is it meant to. The Bread Box provides much more substantial help. This little pantry is simply here to fill some of the gaps.

Sometimes someone needs a few groceries to make it until payday. Sometimes a child needs something for breakfast, a family needs enough for one simple supper or someone runs out of a basic necessity at the worst possible time. Sometimes people need help when other resources are not open. Sometimes they simply need to take what they need quietly, without explaining their circumstances.

That is why this little pantry matters.

When the pantry was open before, the items that disappeared most quickly were things people could use easily. Canned soups, rice and pasta mixes, canned meals, tuna, chicken, peanut butter, cereal and snacks for children were always needed. Toiletries and paper products were used too. The pantry does not need unusual or expensive items. It needs the everyday things that can become breakfast, lunch or supper when the cupboards are running low.

I see other little pantries create Amazon wish lists and yes, that would certainly be easy. But I would rather the money spent helping our neighbors also stay here in Sutton. If you would like to contribute, I hope you will consider picking up an extra item or two at Brown’s. One purchase can help a neighbor while also supporting the local grocery store our entire community needs.

If shopping or dropping off items is not convenient, contributions may also be sent through Venmo to -613. I will use any money received to purchase pantry items at Brown’s.

Donations may be placed directly in the pantry once it reopens or left on my porch at 103 West Laurel. It is the house with the giant rooster out front. And by giant, I mean six feet tall, so I feel confident you will find us. 😂

I am learning that doing something good does not mean one person has to do all of it alone. I will continue doing what I can and I hope this little pantry can become something our community helps care for together.

It may be little, but when someone needs what is inside, it does not feel little at all.

Sweet Heat Jalapeño Onion Relish.

This started because I had a bunch of beautiful jalapeños and an onion from Stone Quality Produce, and I wanted to do something besides salsa, ceviche or my usual.......pickled everything.

So I started playing last night.

A little vinegar, sugar, garlic and seasoning later, I had a jar of sweet, tangy, slightly spicy goodness sitting in my refrigerator.

I piled guacamole, shredded cheese, scrambled eggs and pickled sweet baby peppers onto toast, added a generous spoonful of the relish and, naturally, finished it with Cholula Chili Lime.

OH. MY. GOODNESS.

This stuff is GOOD.

It's sweet enough to balance the jalapeños, tangy from the vinegar and has just the right amount of heat. I can already see it going on burgers, tacos, grilled chicken, steak, sandwiches, burrito bowls and probably a ridiculous number of other things.

This is one of the things I love most about getting my CSA from Stone Quality Produce. Sometimes having a pile of fresh vegetables sitting in front of me forces me to get out of my normal cooking routine and figure out something new to do with them.

And every once in a while, an experiment turns into a keeper.

Sweet Heat Jalapeño Onion Relish is definitely a keeper. ❤️🌶️

Now I just need Stone Quality Produce to keep the jalapeños coming because this jar isn't going to last long. 😂

I had plans for those potatoes. 😂

When my CSA delivery from Stone Quality Produce came this week, I was absolutely going to make potato soup with them. And honestly, I probably still will.

But then I woke up this morning hungry for a big, hearty breakfast and those potatoes started looking less like soup and more like breakfast.

So I chopped up some of the potatoes, sweet baby peppers and onion from this week's Stone Quality Produce delivery and sautéed everything together until the potatoes were crispy and the peppers and onions had those wonderful browned edges.

Then I topped it with an egg from Reyes Farm Stand and added some pickled jalapeños and pickled onions that I made from produce from a previous Stone Quality Produce delivery.

Everything on my plate except the sausage was local.

I love that.

I love getting my CSA delivery and then figuring out what I'm going to do with everything. Sometimes I have a plan. Sometimes the plan changes because I'm hungry. 😂 And sometimes something from one week's delivery gets pickled and ends up making an appearance on a plate weeks later.

There is just something really satisfying about knowing where your food came from and being able to say that almost an entire breakfast came from people growing and producing food right here in our area.

The potato soup can wait. Breakfast won this round. 😂❤️
