Many of you have noticed that we are closed and are wondering what’s going on with Red Dirt BBQ. We appreciate your concern and thank you for reaching out to check on us—it means everything to us!

As most of you know, my husband, Will Thomas, has been going to doctor’s appointments and undergoing biopsies. The results initially came back negative, and we were so relieved. However, the last biopsy, unfortunately, came back positive. Two weeks ago, Will began his first round of chemotherapy, and his second round is scheduled in two weeks. After that, he will undergo a stem cell transplant, which will require a three-week hospital stay. Following the transplant, he will need to remain quarantined for at least three months. During this time, Red Dirt BBQ will remain closed.

As you all know, our business, Red Dirt BBQ, has been a labor of love for Will and me. We’ve been open for almost two years and have had a blast serving up delicious slow-smoked BBQ. Your support and love for our food have earned us a 4.8 rating on Google—thank you!
We cherish all our friends, loyal customers, and those just passing through, who stop by for lunch and dinner, sharing great conversations and laughs.

It’s disappointing that we have to close temporarily, and we already miss you all! Will and I love our business and our customers, and we’re eager to get back to doing what we love as soon as possible. I know that getting back to slow-smoking meats, which Will is so passionate about, will be a driving force in his recovery.

Our hope is to reopen once he has fully recovered. We ask for your prayers and well wishes as we go through this challenging time. We love our community and neighbors so much, and we WILL be back!

We are thrilled to announce that Red Dirt BBQ is reopening this [Friday, July 12th)!

Some of you will remember that Will Thomas was diagnosed with Non- Hodgkins Lymphoma back in 2021. He went through chemotherapy and went into remission. Since then we focused on opening Red Dirt BBQ to serve our slo-smoked bbq to Jefferson, Texas. We opened for business on March 2023. It’s been going so well! We appreciate all of our customers stopping by for lunch and dinner and great conversations. So 2 months ago, Will went for an annual checkup. And we were told that the cancer was back!

We had to temporarily close down our BBQ restaurant to figure out what we were dealing with.

We have been going back and forth to doctor’s appointments for testing and meetings with the Oncologist. It’s been a very stressful and scary time, as you can imagine. We have stayed positive and we leaned on God to give us the strength to get through it.

During the time we were shut down, we appreciated all the calls and text messages we’ve received from all of you. Your support has meant everything to us during this challenging time. We have been praying non stop, asking for healing.

After going through 3 different biopsies and many bloodwork checks, all the testing has come back NEGATIVE!

Will has been given the green light to go back to work! We are excited to be back up and running soon and even more eager to welcome you back to our BBQ Spot. We are truly grateful for your continued support during this closure, and we look forward to seeing everyone again on the 12th.

I knew Will was going to come out of this like the champion that he is. We just wanted to express our appreciation to everyone who has been praying for him, came by to check in on him and give him encouragement.

We have much to celebrate!

We are so proud of Chris’s results in the recent Special Olympics Event. He won the Gold medal in the 10 meter assisted walk, 25 meter power chair obstacles course and the 25 meter wheelchair relay! We are so proud of him!

Our very own Chris will be representing Jefferson in the Track and Field event, Saturday, April 13th from 9AM - 1PM. The event will be held at Pine Tree ISD Pine Stadium in Longview, TX.
