Watching Rockport come together during and since yesterday’s fire has been nothing short of inspiring. From the Rockport Soccer team rallying around their teammate, neighbors delivering chowder to the firemen (who deserve great thanks) and local shops making sure everyone had what they needed to get through the night, the support has been fabulous.

The families are so grateful for everyone who helping in whatever way. For those asking how to help, here are some ways you can support the families affected:

- Gift cards and checks (made out to the families) can be dropped off at The Blacksmith Shop.

- School Based Support: Please reach out to Phil Whitley.

- Wanting to donate clothing and other essentials: Please bring donations to Second Glance Thrift Store. They are coordinating to ensure families get what they need.

- Action Inc and the Red Cross are assisting

- individual GoFundMe accounts have been set up for the families and workers.

We are working on gathering a list of specific needs—from key fobs and fishing gear to work clothes—so please stay tuned for updates. To everyone who answered the call and opened their doors: thank you!

🐻 A bear, a fishing knife, and one unforgettable name…

Ever wonder how Bearskin Neck got its name? One local legend tells of Ebenezer Babson rescuing his nephew from a bear, battling it with a fishing knife, and leaving its skin drying on the shoreline rocks. Passing fishermen reportedly gave the little peninsula its memorable name.

But that’s only one version! Another tells of a bear caught by the tide, a story commemorated on the sign at the entrance to the Neck.

Long before the shops, galleries, and ice cream stops, this was a busy working waterfront tied to fishing and Rockport’s granite trade. 🌊
