I frequently get asked, "Why did you start roasting coffee?"
The answer is simple. I wanted good coffee.
I experienced amazing coffee and couldn't figure out why what I made at home wasn't even close. I got a fancy coffee maker. I bought the expensive brands from the grocery store. Turns out, I was wasting my time and money.
What I eventually discovered was that the biggest difference wasn't the coffee maker. It wasn't the brewing method. It was the coffee itself.
Freshly roasted, high-quality coffee beans made all the difference. Most coffee found on grocery store shelves was roasted weeks or even months ago, and much of it is roasted darker than necessary, masking the unique flavors that make coffee special. Not to mention they use low quality coffee beans because all you taste is burnt coffee.
That's why I started roasting coffee. Not to build a business. Not because I needed another hobby. I simply wanted better coffee.
If you want great coffee at home, start with three things: clean water, a clean brewer, and fresh, high-quality coffee. Everything else is secondary. Fresh coffee changes everything.
