Researching a new crop in Florida is a constant balance of highs and lows. There’s excitement in discovery, but also humility in learning just how demanding our climate can be.

Some species surprised us. Not only did they survive Florida’s polar vortex and unpredictable weather—they thrived. Those plants adapted quickly, showed strong vegetative growth, and proved that with the right conditions, Florida can support crops many assumed wouldn’t succeed here.

Other varieties told a different story. They struggled under stress from temperature swings, moisture, or seasonal extremes. But that doesn’t mean failure—it means data. Those plants will need a hard pruning and a fresh start, allowing us to reset growth, strengthen root systems, and apply what we’ve learned moving forward.

This is the reality of agricultural research: progress isn’t linear. Success comes from observing, adjusting, and being willing to start over when needed. Every plant—whether thriving or restarting—contributes valuable insight that moves the research forward and brings us closer to identifying truly resilient, Florida-ready crops

Every box we open has a purpose.
At High Horse Coffee, we wanted tea that holds its own next to great coffee—crafted, ethical, and full of character.

That’s why we chose 2 Leaves and a Bud.
Whole leaves. Thoughtful sourcing. No shortcuts.

Because whether you ride with coffee or tea…
however you ride, ride high. šŸ¤ ā˜•šŸŒæ
