And a special congratulations to Malik Ali, from Ralph's Cafe FLIK Hospitality Group his entry of Sweet Ancho Chili Chicken Tostada w/ Pickled Radish and red onion, cilantro créme friâche, queso fresco, avocado on a blue corn tortilla won the "People's Choice Award" at the The HeART of Food: Supporting Children's Creativity hosted at Taller Puertorriqueño.

His food sample was inspired by:
Osvaldo (Ozzy) Baez, age 18 is a student at Mastbaum High School where he studies electrical engineering. His art is inspired by science fiction illustration. In this diptych, he created a fictional moon colony with spaceships for travel, a watchtower to provide light for travelers, and water reservoirs. The piece depicts other planets in our Milky Way Galaxy with a colorful and delightful painting approach that is a bit humorous and fitting to Ozzy's personality.

3. Passion Fruit S’mores - homemade oreo cookie shield, ganache, passion fruit marshmallow

Inspired by . . .
Armando García, age 17, is a student at Jules E. Mastbaum Area Vocational Technical School and a graphic design major. The Freedom Shield was created with Taller’s artist in residence Miguel Antonio Hor. Horn created this work inspired by the Cacerolazos, the name given to demonstrations of street protesters using pots and pans to generate noise while challenging the shortages of essentials such as food in Venezuela. The protesters often have to create shields to protect themselves from riot police. The Youth Artist Program in solidarity with the youth of Venezuela created Shields of their own to join in their support of creating a better future for Venezuela.

Thanks to everyone who participated to make this event a success! Stay tuned for our next winner.

Rounding out the group of giving chefs who are competing in "The HeART of Food" fundraiser's is Yazmin Auli, Chef & Co-Owner of El Coqui Panaderia y Resposteria in Philadelphia.

El Coqui began as a home-based bakery, making Puerto Rican breads & sweets. As their business grew, they expanded beyond baked goods to offer a full range of Puerto Rican specialties out of a storefront location.

Known for serving up the "true taste of Puerto Rico," Yazmin and the El Coqui team will join Cooks Who Care to support Taller Puertorriqueño. Yazmin will be creating a dish inspired by the art work of Taller student Navaeh Montañes, age 7.

Veronica Martinez-Rios has been a long-time supporter of Cooks Who Care. In 2016, she joined Marqessa Gesualdi to create custom doughnuts for guests at the Philly Art and Food gala fundraiser for Taller Puertorriqueño.

This coming Sunday, Veronica (now a Pastry Chef at Morimoto in Philadelphia) will once again use her talents for pastry arts to support the good work that Taller does in their community. As part of the at "The HeART of Food" fundraiser event, she will be creating a dish inspired by the work of Taller student Aasya Benhadjali, age 9.

*****************************

About Aasya and her work:

"Aasya Benhadjali, age 9, was experimenting with color, glitter and tape to create different shapes in positive and negative. She is fascinated by form, and how these combine to create a composition. Aasya loves coming to Taller because she can be herself and explore different art mediums in her classes."
