A Taste of Naples Pizza

Just sharing some unfortunate news from the beekeeping side of my life.

Some of my hives were washed off their stands by 3’ of flood waters a few days ago. Those hives will probably not survive. I had several others that remained in place but still had water rise several inches up into the hive. I’m hopeful that they will all survive but it’s a little bit of a waiting game.

Cross your fingers for the bees!! 🙂

Just a reminder of our Sourdough Bread class that we offer. Fully hands on and you take home your own sourdough starter and a loaf of dough to bake at home. Four hour class in my home kitchen for 3-5 people. $90/person with the pizza option(we make/bake/eat my famous pizza) or $75/person without pizza.

October and November are great times for classes or a class makes a great Christmas present for those wanting to gift an “experience “.

Pic of this morning’s loaves and a few shots from my last class.

Message me or email me at [email protected]
For more details! 😀

Anise Hyssop is a great flowering plant for bees and other pollinators. It has a long bloom starting in June. We cut ours back in early August and we’re getting a nice bloom in September again. They’ve had nonstop attention from monarchs the last few days.

Totally fun bread class tonight with three sisters and an Aunt.

Bread classes are about 3-4 hours for 4-5 people. I schedule whenever works well for you. Makes a great “experience” Christmas gift!! Just send me a message for more info.

We made a brand new pizza tonight that was far away the favorite. Alice had made Ratatouille a couple nights ago and it was super tasty. Seemed like it would make a great pizza ingredient and it sure did. See the pics below.

Edit - added pic of a guy sporting a very cool “Parrot Head” hat. 😋

Went to a Jimmy Buffet tribute outdoor concert at Lauritzen Gardens tonight so it was a great opportunity to break out my old “pizza shirt”. 😁😁

I’ve been known to do some “stealth seeding” of wildflower pollinator mixes on construction projects on public land.

I’ve never had much luck before but finally got some going from a patch that were seeded a couple years ago.

For all of you “makers“ out there for Nebraska beekeeper Association is putting on a makers symposium on July 18 in Kearney.

There are lots of fun sessions where you will make and take things home.

I’ll be teaching a session on sourdough bread making where we’ll make a loaf of sourdough that you’ll take home to bake (you’ll also take home your own sourdough starter!)

I’ll also teach another session on Mead making where you will start a gallon of one of my favorite mead recipes in class and you will finish it at home.

If you want to learn about Bees, the guest speaker will be Bob Binnie, who is one of the most knowledgeable people in the world about beekeeping.

All of the sessions can be signed up for independently. So come for one or come for all!!

Growing up in western Nebraska “Kraut Burgers” or “Cabbage Burgers” were a common menu item. I don’t really know if Mom put sauerkraut in ours or not. I suspect she called them Cabbage Burgers as she knew we’d turn out noses up at kraut. Basically they are a lot like a Runza with more cabbage in the filling.

Made my sourdough version of these tonight and they really turned out nicely!!
