Leave Something Better Than You Found It There is a simple philosophy I try to carry with me: leave something better than you found it. It doesn't have to be something big.
Maybe you helped someone who was having a hard day. Maybe you picked up something someone else left behind. Maybe you gave someone a little encouragement when they needed it. Maybe you simply treated someone with respect when the world had given them plenty of reasons to expect otherwise.
That's the point. We spend a lot of time worrying about what we will get out of life. What we will accomplish. What people will think of us. What we will leave behind. But maybe the better question is this; What did I leave better because I was there? Your presence should have a purpose.
Make your family stronger. Make your friendships better. Make your workplace better. Make your community better. And when you walk away from a conversation, a place, or a person's life, leave behind something positive. You don't need recognition for it. You don't need applause. Do good because doing good is who you choose to be.
We cannot control everything that happens around us, but we can control what we contribute to it. So today, wherever you go, whoever you encounter, leave something better than you found it
And when you look back at your life, maybe that will be one of the greatest things you can say. The world was just a little better because I was here.
