I love the way Brentwood Bay connected me to British Columbia in an authentic and beautiful way🛥️

From visiting Sea Cider, to taking their boat charter to Butchart Gardens, to sitting down for a farm-to-table dinner celebrating their new harvest menu, so much of this trip came back to what’s being grown and produced right here on Vancouver Island.

We also got to slow down a little. cold plunges, sauna, trails, good food and a lot of time outside.

This is what I love about agritourism. You’re not just visiting somewhere. You’re learning where the food comes from, meeting the people behind it and supporting the farmers and producers who make that place what it is.

And I think hotels have such a cool opportunity to be the bridge between travelers and those local communities.

More of this kind of travel, please. 🤎

I genuinely think Lightwater Cove changed the way I want to vacation.

The entire property is private, surrounded by the most beautiful landscape, and so much of the experience is centered around the farm and what’s growing there.

Every morning, breakfast is made from what’s in season on the property. We had cooked amaranth over polenta with delicata squash one morning, and it was SO good.

I’ve always loved farm-to-table food, but staying somewhere where you’re actually living in the middle of it made me love it even more.

Give me a beautiful farm, good food, and nowhere I need to be and I’m happy

I really believe agritourism is going to play a huge role in the future of American agriculture.

Our farms aren’t just places where food is produced. They’re places we can visit, learn from, eat at, stay at, gather around, and ultimately invest in.

When farms create experiences around what they already do, farm dinners, farm stays, tours, workshops, markets and events. It creates another stream of income while giving us a much deeper connection to where our food actually comes from.

That’s a big reason I started this field research series.

Over the next year, I’m traveling to farms and destinations across North America to find out what successful agritourism actually looks like, meet the people doing it well, and explore how agriculture, hospitality and tourism can work together to better support our farmers.

Food styling is the wedding vendor every bride needs but might not know about.

It’s not just catering, and it’s not just decor. It’s someone thinking through every detail on that table, from the fruit that gets stacked to the way a plate is angled so guests actually stop and look.

That intentionality is what turns a meal into a moment. It’s the reason people remember reaching for something at your reception, not just eating it.
