We created Yammies because pumpkin spice was never our fall. We don’t want the latte, the loaf, the cheesecake, none of it.

Our fall is sweet potatoes. Yams. That flavor that’s been on our tables forever. So we put it in a brownie and made our own thing. 🍠

Three months turned into three YEARS. 👀

I had plans to move to California and write a fashion book. But when my mom got laid off, she asked me to give her three months to help open the bakery she’d always dreamed of.

Three months became three years. We eventually burned out, but somewhere along the way, I discovered gifts and talents I didn’t even know I had.

That experience laid the foundation for everything we’re building today with TLFG.

Sometimes you gotta put your plans aside to make room for God’s bigger plan. 🙏🏾🖤

Our Yummy has been outside with us from the beginning. Watching, helping, talking to customers and building her confidence along the way.

What makes moments like this even better is watching our community pour into her too. A little game here, some encouragement there. It all adds up.

One day when she’s at the helm of the billion-dollar TLFG empire, she’ll be able to say she was there learning the business from the ground up.

Aight so boom… we pulled up to the Floating Market in Willemstad. We heard people come over from Venezuela by boat bringing some of the freshest produce to the island, so you KNOW we had to see what was up.

That mango?! He cut it open and the juice was DRIPPING. It tasted like the first time we ever had a real mango 😂 Like ohhhh THIS is what mangoes are supposed to taste like?! Grabbed a watermelon for the road too.

💎 FAT Tip: Bring cash, shop with the locals and let them put you on.

But seriously… why does fruit and vegetables outside the US always taste SO much better?! 😩

I knew NOTHING. And I didn’t know that I knew nothing. 😭

Opening a bakery with my mom in 2009 taught me real quick that being good at what you do and knowing how to run a business are two VERY different things.

17 years later, I’ve learned a whole lot, made mistakes, figured s**t out, pivoted and kept building. And I’m STILL learning.

That might be one of the realest parts of entrepreneurship. The more you grow, the more you realize there’s always something else to learn.
