Build Sisu

Build Sisu exists to reduce the number of low-income individuals living in high risk situations by creating pathways to empowerment through employment.

Sisu is a Finnish word that roughly translates to the idea of having resoluteness in the face of adversity and having a fighting spirit– you don't give up until you are dead and death is the only thing that can destroy you. Our workforce development program provides skills training, career counseling, and job placement, as well as job retention support. We seek to capitalize on the skills and need

s of the community while also striving towards long-term, sustainable employment. Our foundational workforce development programming centers around craftsmanship skills and culinary arts. Our program graduates are supported in employment either through entrepreneurship or placement with a community partner. We make sure our program graduates have the necessary certifications required, such as ServSafe for those working in food industries. Alongside our hard skills training, we also seek to foster the "soft skills" needed for successful outcomes.
