🌴 BEACH PLEASE FAQs: THE “BEFORE YOU ASK…” EDITION🌴
We have a whole bunch of new faces around here, so it feels like a good time for another round of...
Frequently Asked Questions.
Some actually frequently asked.
Some asked often enough that I have developed an eye twitch.
And some I am answering now because move-in is coming and I would like all 3,400-ish of us to remain friends. 😂
So grab a beverage. This is a long one. But stay for it, it's funny (and took me a hella long time to write!)
🌊 Q: First of all…what exactly IS Beach Please Delivery Co.?
A: Excellent question because at this point, sometimes even I’m not sure. 😂
We are a local delivery/gifting business specializing in making your CCU kid feel loved from however many hundreds of miles away you happen to be.
Birthdays. Snack baskets. Sweet treats. Get-well goodies. “I miss you.” “You survived your exam.” “Please eat something.” “Your mother is worried.” Random Tuesday happiness.
Basically, you have the idea, I figure out how to make it happen.
🌊 Q: Are you an actual person or is this a big company?
A: HI. IT’S ME. 😂
I’m Deborah. Blonde bob. Gold hoops. Usually holding a Dunkin. Currently accessorizing with a spectacular pink camo cast because apparently regular accessories weren't enough for me.
Beach Please is a small business. Like…SMALL small.
There is no mysterious corporate office filled with Beach Please employees wearing headsets.
There is me, my family, and occasionally some wonderful humans I rope into helping when life gets extra spicy.
🌊 Q: Do you only deliver to CCU students?
A: CCU students are absolutely our bread and butter and the reason this whole crazy thing exists, but nope!
We also do local deliveries, birthdays, surprises, Airbnb goodies, parents visiting the area, and plenty of other things.
If you're wondering if I can do something, ASK. Worst case, I say no. Best case, I get overly excited and turn your simple idea into a whole situation. 😂
🌊 Q: How do I place an order?
A: TEXT ME.
Please.
Text. Me.
Carrier pigeon? No.
Smoke signal? No.
Facebook comment buried under a post from 11 days ago? Absolutely not.
Instagram DM? Living dangerously.
Messenger? May the odds be ever in your favor.
TEXTING IS THE WAY.
That keeps orders, information and communication somewhere I can actually find it again.
🌊 Q: But can I just message you on Facebook?
A: Technically, yes.
You can also whisper your order into a seashell and throw it into the Atlantic.
The odds of me finding either one at the exact moment I need it are alarmingly similar. 😂
If you need something from me, especially if MONEY AND AN ACTUAL ORDER are involved, please text.
🌊 Q: How much notice do you need?
A: As much as humanly possible. 😂
Can I sometimes pull off same-day magic? Yep.
Do I want to build my entire business model around emergency Doritos procurement? Nope.
College life is busy. My life is busy. There are only so many hours in a day, and unfortunately Amazon has not started selling additional ones.
Birthdays especially — reach out EARLY. You can reserve those babies months ahead of time.
Future You will feel very accomplished.
🌊 Q: Do you do same-day deliveries?
A: Sometimes!
If my schedule allows it, I will absolutely try.
But please understand that “Deborah is local” does not mean “Deborah is sitting in her car staring at her phone waiting for Brayden to suddenly need Gatorade.” 😂
Give me notice whenever you can.
🌊 Q: Do you deliver on Sundays?
A: Sundays are for BIRTHDAYS ONLY.
If your baby was born on a Sunday, congratulations, you have unlocked the Beach Please Sunday Exception. 😂
Otherwise, we'll get you taken care of another day.
🌊 Q: How does delivery work at the dorms?
A: I coordinate directly with your student and we meet them outside their dorm/building.
I do not go into dorms.
I do not knock on room doors.
I do not wander hallways yelling, “IS THERE A LOGAN IN HERE WHOSE MOTHER LOVES HIM?!”
Although admittedly that would be incredible content. 😂
🌊 Q: Do you need their room number?
A: NOPE.
Please keep that little piece of identifying information to yourself.
I need their name, phone number and dorm/building. I do NOT need their room number.
We meet outside.
🌊 Q: Does my kid need to know you're coming?
A: They don't necessarily need to know WHAT is coming.
But for the love of all things teal, please make them aware that I EXIST. 😂
Tell them:
“Hey, a woman named Deborah from Beach Please may text you sometime. She is not a scammer. She is not selling you an extended warranty. ANSWER HER.”
You can still keep the surprise a surprise without making me look like a 43-year-old stranger trying to lure your child out of a dorm with cookies.
🌊 Q: What if my kid doesn't answer you?
A: Ahhh yes.
Welcome to one of my favorite games:
✨ YOUR CHILD HAS A $1,200 PHONE AND YET SOMEHOW CANNOT ANSWER IT ✨
If they aren't responding, I may reach back out to you.
At which point we begin the sacred CCU parent ritual known as:
*TEXT YOUR CHILD AND TELL THEM TO ANSWER DEBORAH.”
Works surprisingly well. 😂
🌊 Q: What if they're in class when you want to deliver?
A: This is exactly why I coordinate with THEM.
I don't just barrel onto campus, chuck a snack basket toward the nearest residence hall and yell GOOD LUCK.
We figure out a time that makes sense for their schedule and mine.
College schedules are weird. We work around them.
🌊 Q: Can I customize a basket?
A: YES.
For regular custom orders, tell me what they love. Tell me what they hate. Tell me they have a concerning emotional attachment to Cool Ranch Doritos.
I want to know.
Some of our special/event baskets are offered as house picks/no substitutions because your girl cannot custom-shop 937 versions of the same thing and retain her remaining sanity. 😂
If something is customizable, I'll tell you.
🌊 Q: Can I send things to you to put into their delivery?
A: Usually, YES!
Parents have shipped me gifts, merch and special little things they want included.
Just communicate with me first so I know what's coming, who it belongs to and why there is suddenly a random Stanley cup sitting in my house.
Organization keeps Deborah out of the padded room.
🌊 Q: Can you accommodate allergies?
A: PLEASE tell me about allergies when ordering.
Don't assume I know. Don't casually mention it three weeks later in a Facebook comment. 😂
Food allergies are serious, and I need that information clearly communicated when we're planning the order.
🌊 Q: Can I order something that isn't on your page/menu?
A: ABSOLUTELY.
Some of my favorite deliveries start with:
“Okay, this might sound weird, but…”
YES. CONTINUE. YOU HAVE MY ATTENTION.
Birthdays. Breakups. Get well soon. Congratulations. Bad day. Big test. Homesick. New job. Sorority stuff. “I'm proud of you.” “I'm sorry.” “Your mother hasn't heard from you in 14 hours and has assumed you've joined the circus.”
We can work with a LOT. 😂
🌊 Q: Can you pick something up and deliver it?
A: Depending on what it is, where it is, when you need it and what my schedule looks like — possibly!
Ask me.
I have picked up restaurant orders, store orders, forgotten things and things that I never imagined would become part of my professional career. 😂
🌊 Q: Can I reserve my kid's birthday even if it's months away?
A: YESSSSS.
In fact, Future Deborah would like to personally kiss your forehead for planning ahead.
Reach out early. Get on my calendar. We can figure out details closer to the date.
You don't earn extra Mom Points for waiting until 9:47 p.m. the night before. 😂
🌊 Q: What are Sweet Drops?
A: Sweet Drops are our dipped-treat babies and they have taken on a life of their own around here.
And this school year we're getting even MORE creative with sweets because apparently my brain looked at my already insane workload and said:
“You know what would be fun? BAKING.”
So stay tuned. 😂
🌊 Q: What's with the Tiny Jesus?
A: Listen.
Tiny Jesus goes everywhere.
He has become a Beach Please icon and at this point I believe removing him would cause a small uprising. 😂
🌊 Q: Do you take pictures when you deliver?
A: YES — 99.9% of the time.
I absolutely LOVE getting delivery pictures.
You guys love seeing your kids.
I love seeing their faces.
YOU love seeing their faces.
And let's be honest, sometimes Mama needs photographic evidence that her child is alive, wearing shoes and has consumed something besides caffeine in the last 48 hours. 😂
BUT...
Sometimes a student is rushing to class.
Sometimes they're shy.
Sometimes the delivery handoff is quick.
Sometimes we simply don't get one.
A photo is something I LOVE to get, but it is not guaranteed with every delivery.
🌊 Q: Do you post delivery pictures on social media?
A: YES, all of our deliveries get shared on our Beach Please social media pages!
Honestly, that's a huge part of the fun around here. You guys get to celebrate each other's kids, birthdays, milestones, surprises and all the sweet little moments happening away from home.
BUT — and this is important —
I take your student's privacy seriously.
If there is anything visible in a picture that could identify exactly where your student lives — room numbers, apartment numbers, identifying signage, etc. — I remove/blur/crop it before posting.
The internet does NOT need directions to your kid's bedroom.
No ma'am.
We're delivering snacks, not coordinates. 😂
🌊 Q: What if I don't want my student's picture posted?
A: JUST TELL ME. ❤️
Seriously. That's it.
You don't need a reason. Your student doesn't need a reason.
If you prefer that they not be posted, just let me know and I will respect that.
Same goes if the STUDENT says, “Please don't post me.”
They're adults. Their comfort matters too.
🌊 Q: What about dorm names? Do you share where students live?
A: I may mention general campus life or where we're bouncing around that day, but I am not intentionally posting information that identifies a student's specific living location.
And again — room numbers and other specific identifying details get removed from photos before anything goes online.
I love social media.
I do not love accidentally creating a treasure map to someone's child.
🌊 Q: Why DO you post the delivery pictures?
A: Because this page isn't just a storefront to me.
This whole thing has become a little community.
Parents see familiar faces. Kids see friends. We celebrate birthdays and good days and hard days and “OMG THAT'S MY KID!” moments.
And selfishly?
Seeing those smiles is one of my absolute favorite parts of this job.
Especially because half the time I know the story behind the delivery.
Mama was missing her.
Dad wanted him to know he was proud.
Grandma just wanted to make her day.
They had a horrible week.
They aced something they thought they'd fail.
THAT'S the good stuff. ❤️
🌊 Q: Are you seriously still doing this with that ridiculous broken foot/ankle?
A: Apparently.
Current body composition:
37% woman
42% metal
14% caffeine
7% pure, unregulated spite.
😂
I may not always be the person physically handing your student their delivery while I'm recovering, but I am still very much behind the scenes making the magic/chaos happen.
🌊 Q: So who might actually deliver to my kid?
A: Right now, because I am temporarily auditioning for the role of Bionic Woman, you may see one of my trusted helpers doing the physical handoff.
Don't panic.
I haven't been kidnapped.
Beach Please hasn't been sold to a multinational snack conglomerate.
I'm probably at home scooting around on one leg, surrounded by Post-it notes, snacks, ribbon and 14 open tabs on my computer. 😂
🌊 Q: What happens after I place an order?
A: I get everything organized on my end, collect the information I need, add you to my system/calendar and then handle coordinating the actual delivery with your student when the time comes.
You do not have to orchestrate the handoff from three states away.
That's literally why you hired me. ❤️
🌊 Q: Do I have to know exactly what I want before I text you?
A: NO!
You can absolutely text me something like:
“My daughter has had a terrible week. I want to send her something around $50. She loves pink, Dr Pepper and chocolate.”
THAT IS ENOUGH TO GET MY WHEELS TURNING.
You don't need to submit a 14-page creative brief.
Although if you DO, I will respect the commitment. 😂
🌊 Q: Why aren't your baskets/deliveries all identical?
A: Because we're not Amazon.
And thank God because I look terrible in khaki shorts.
😂
This is a small, locally run business. Availability changes. Products change. Seasonal things change. I find cute stuff. Something sells out. I substitute.
That's part of what makes these deliveries fun.
They're curated for actual humans, not assembled by robots in Warehouse 46B.
🌊 Q: Are surprises REALLY surprises if you're texting my kid?
A: YES.
I do not text:
“HELLO EMILY. YOUR MOTHER PURCHASED THE $75 BIRTHDAY PACKAGE INCLUDING YOUR FAVORITE CHOCOLATE AND A GIANT NUMBER BALLOON. PLEASE REPORT OUTSIDE.”
😂
I tell them I have a Beach Please delivery and coordinate a time.
The CONTENTS can still be the surprise.
🌊 Q: How do I pay you? Do you take Venmo?
A: Typically, everything goes through Square invoices. You text me your order, I send you a payment link, you click it, pay it, and ✨boom✨ — we are officially in business.
Now… if you are deeply emotionally committed to your Venmo because that’s where you’ve hidden your “fun money” from yourself, I understand. 😂 I can make an exception.
But as a general rule: Square invoice = the law of the land. It keeps me organized, keeps your order attached to your payment, and keeps me from staring at random Venmo transactions at 11pm whispering, “WHO ARE YOU AND WHAT DID YOU BUY?” 😭
So unless we’ve specifically discussed otherwise, expect a Square link via text!
🌊 Q: Will you embarrass my kid?
A: Define embarrass.
Will I intentionally humiliate them? No.
Will I possibly show up cheerful, hand them something adorable and make them take a picture while their roommate watches?
Maybe.
Will their mother LOVE IT?
Absolutely. 😂
🌊 Q: And finally…do you really care about these kids?
A: This one isn't funny.
Yes. I really, really do.
Your kids start out as names on my phone.
Then I meet them.
Then I deliver to them again.
Then I recognize them around campus.
Then suddenly I'm hearing about their classes, their birthdays, their roommates, their wins, their rough days and all the little pieces of this enormous chapter of their lives.
I know what it feels like to love somebody and wish you could reach across the miles and remind them that they're loved.
Beach Please gets to be that little bridge.
Sometimes it's a giant birthday surprise.
Sometimes it's a bag of their favorite snacks.
Sometimes it's a tiny Jesus tucked into a delivery.
But the message underneath it is always pretty much the same:
Somebody back home is thinking about you. ❤️
And THAT is my favorite part of this whole crazy thing.
So, welcome to Beach Please. 🌴🩵
We're a little sarcastic.
We're occasionally chaotic.
We're currently slightly bionic.
But we love your kids.
And apparently…we deliver just about anything. 😂🌊
