Soo.. Chase just announced big changes to the Sapphire Preferred.. and if you're new to credit card points, this is actually great news for you!
First, the $95 annual fee stays the same. That part didn't change.
Here's what did π
THE GOOD:
**β
** New category bonus: The CSP is now earning 3x points per dollar on gas, EV charging, and vacation rentals.
**β
** The hotel credit doubled from $50 to $100 per year (when booked through the Chase portal).
**β
** You now get a $120 credit every 4 years for Global Entry, TSA PreCheck, or NEXUS.
**β
** And you get 1 year of Apple TV+ included. (terms apply)
THE BAD:
**β** The Hyatt transfer ratio is changing from 1:1 to 4:3 (meaning your Chase points are worth slightly less when transferring to Hyatt). This was TOUGH for advanced travelers!
**β** The 10% anniversary point boost is gone.
My personal AND HONEST opinion: The Hyatt changes suck for advanced travelers who use Chase points for hotel bookings.
BUT, if you're just starting out.. you're probably not booking hotels with points yet.. you're focused on flights.
This card has always been labeled a beginner card. These changes keep it exactly that.. except just better π€
So the CSP is now official a beginner friendly card! More categories earning points means you're accumulating faster, for the same $95 a year.
Whatβs your take?
