Deerhammer Distilling Company Our distilling is steeped in tradition, but our methods are infused with curiosity and creativity. We’re redefining the flavor & future of American whiskey

At Deerhammer, our distilling is steeped in whiskey history, but our methods are infused with curiosity and creativity. We’ve analyzed each step of the whiskey-making process, to examine the impact each choice makes on our final product. Often, we’ve stayed with time-honored techniques—like our copper pot stills. Yet we’ve also found unexplored territory within that tradition by playing with our g

rain blend and opting for the wilder side of fermentation. The first taste of that experimentation is our cornerstone single malt. Starting its life as a porter-style 100% malted barley mash, it’s further shaped by open-air fermentation before passing through our stills and maturing in charred virgin white oak. Boasting a complex profile with notes of coffee and chocolate, you won’t mistake it for its Scottish or Irish counterparts. It’s a uniquely American product, with an exceptional taste of place. For us, that place is our home in Buena Vista, Colorado: a historic adventure town at the heart of the Rocky Mountains. Built on the banks of the Arkansas River, its famed whitewater currents are the reason our east coast founders first moved west. Each batch of our whiskeys has a touch of that hometown spirit, and we encourage you to take your first sip with an explorer’s state of mind.

🚨 Arkansas River Rum will be available at the distillery this weekend!

Born from Caribbean molasses and shaped by the high country of Colorado, Arkansas River Rum is a spirit of movement, patience, and place. Open-fermented for three weeks near the headwaters of the Arkansas River, this rum captures the untamed character of its surroundings—fed by the same snowmelt that swells the river each spring and flows through every step of its making.Aged in ex-bourbon barrels, time in oak softens and deepens the spirit, layering notes of caramel, toasted vanilla, and warm spice over a backbone of raw, expressive cane. This release is a tribute to the river that runs through our backyard—the same river that surges with snowmelt each Spring, drawing boaters, thrill-seekers, and river rats (pirats?) alike. Whether shredding creek lines or chill floats beneath bluebird skies, the Ark inspires a special kinda freedom. Raise a glass to long days, cold water, and the wild rapids that keep us coming back for more.

This limited edition Rodeo Barrel spent its first four years in heavy toast, char no.2 oak, with additional months at rest in a sauternes wine cask. The result is layered with notes of honey, ripe stone fruit, and soft vanilla—an elegant sweetness that settles into Deerhammer’s bold Colorado spirit.Like the rodeo itself, this limited release celebrates tradition, craft, and the character of the valley we call home. This unique barrel finish brings a golden warmth and a touch of summer to the glass, complementing the caramel and toasted grain at the heart of this offering. Bottled in limited quantities for release at this year’s rodeo, it is a bottle meant to be shared after a long day in the sun—whether you’re cheering at the rodeo, trotting the trails, or toasting friends under the mountain sky.

***More about the rum***
Arkansas River Rum began as an ambitious experiment in August 2021 — an exploration into the traditions and techniques of historic rum production. We sourced authentic Caribbean molasses, fermented with dunder (iykyk!) for added depth and character, double distilled the spirit, and laid down ten barrels to mature alongside our whiskey in the rackhouse.
