Central Texas friends, especially those in rural areas - our current conditions are ripe for wildfires. If you haven't had a scare yet, that's awesome, but honestly, it's just a matter of time.

BEFORE you're panicking and having to evacuate is the RIGHT TIME to get yourself ready.

➡️ Go ahead and pack a bag or box of all the important docs and papers you'd wish you grabbed. This is a "grab and go" box. :)

➡️ Make sure you're signed up for emergency notifications through your county's alert system. Follow them on Facebook. Consider getting a NOAA weather radio.

➡️ Think about where you'll go.

Right now, it's fire dangers, next month, it'll be hurricane season and flooding. There's always a reason to be ready.

Losing chickens is (unfortunately) part of life in the country. A few weeks ago, I thought I'd lost this little hen.

Much to my surprise, she showed back up yesterday with FOURTEEN chicks! 😲

In all our years of raising birds, we have NEVER had a hen hatch this many babies! Way to go little mama!

For the past few years, we have not had a garden. For a variety of reasons, but that's a totally different post.....

Last week, I finally got things rolling again and man I have missed this!!! I just adore getting dirt under my nails and seeing each little plant pop through!

Also, I'm coming to terms with the fact that I'm an impatient gardener. Shocker, right? 🤣

So here's what I've planted so far:
🌱 okra
🌱 tomatoes
🌱 cucumbers (pickling)
🌱 peppers
🌱 swiss chard
🌱 zucchini and yellow squash
🌼 zinnias

Emergency preparedness: a week's worth of water storage during freezing temps.

We needed water for drinking, washing, FLUSHING, and animals. Thankfully we had warning and time to get ready.

What this video doesn't show is the 100+ gallons stored inside the house as our first source of water during the storm.
