Happy national coffee day!

Coffee in America was never about luxury. It was about work.
After the Boston Tea Party, drinking coffee became a small act of independence. By the Civil War, Union soldiers carried coffee rations into the field and brewed it over campfires before marching. It was fuel, comfort, and a few minutes of normal in the middle of hard days.
Then came the factories, the rail yards, the mines, and the job sites. The dented thermos in the lunch pail. The pot on the hot plate in the shop. The diner counter at 5 a.m. where nobody asked how you took it because the answer was "black and hot." The coffee break became part of the American workday, and the cup of joe became the drink of people who build, fix, haul, guard, and serve.
That's our coffee culture. Not fancy. Not fussy. Earned.
It's also why American Joe Coffee exists. We believe good coffee belongs to the folks who start early and stay late: the airmen headed through the gate, the teachers, the tradesmen, the nurses, the first responders, the veterans who still show up for their communities every day.

Bring the Mug Back Tomorrow

One of the simplest answers to waste in the coffee business is probably already sitting in your cabinet.

A coffee mug.

And sometimes the best example isn't something new at all.

I still have a Stanley thermos that I bought while I was on active duty. It went with me during my military years, and decades later, I still use it today.

Think about that for a moment.

One thermos. Decades of service.

It wasn't purchased as an environmental statement. I bought it because I needed a good thermos. It was built well, I took care of it, and it continued doing the job it was designed to do.

That's sustainability in its simplest form.

Make something worth keeping. Take care of it. Keep using it.

Every time that old thermos carries another pot of coffee, that's another occasion when I don't need something disposable. There was no recycling program required and no new product needed. The most sustainable choice was simply continuing to use something I already owned.

That's also why we don't believe everyone needs to run out and buy another trendy reusable cup in the name of sustainability.

Use the mug you already own.

Use your old travel tumbler.

Use the battered thermos that's been riding around with you for years.

And if you buy something new, consider buying something good enough that you might still be using it decades from now.

A reusable cup does require resources to manufacture and wash. Its environmental value comes from actually reusing it, over and over again.

Use it. Wash it. Bring it back tomorrow.

Then do it again.

And again.

My old Stanley thermos has been doing exactly that for decades.

Maybe we don't need more disposable things.

Maybe we need more things worth keeping.

**THE NEW AMERICAN JOE COFFEE WEBSITE IS LIVE. 🇺🇸☕**

We've been doing some work behind the scenes.

American Joe Coffee started with a pretty simple idea: serve good coffee, build something with purpose, and continue a lifetime of service in a different way.

As American Joe is growing, our website needs to grow with it.

Today, we're launching a completely redesigned American Joe Coffee website.

It's easier to navigate, easier to explore our coffees, and—most importantly—it does a much better job of telling you **who we are and why we're doing this.**

If you're not sure what coffee is “supposed” to be your favorite, that's fine. We don't think you should need to be a coffee expert to enjoy a good cup of Joe.

**Coffee knowledge should be an invitation, not an admission requirement.**

That's why the new site makes it easier to explore single-origin coffees, blends, flavored coffees, pods and sample packs—and to simply **find your own Joe.**

You'll also find our **Founder Journals**, where we'll continue talking about coffee, service, building American Joe, Field Operations, and the road toward our future Arizona home.

We're still building. We're still learning. And we're just getting started.

The guys Wrangler Coffee Company nailed this one. This is right on the money. Coffee should not be about what others tell you is good; it is about what you think is good. My taste is not your taste.

Coffee Fact Friday: Cowboys didn’t need fancy/specialized brewing equipment. One reason boiled coffee suited trail life was that the same basic equipment already carried for camp cooking, namely a pot, water, and fire, was enough to make it. No fragile brewer or elaborate apparatus was required.
