Birthdays are often special around this shop. Whether it’s hoots and hollers, hugs, high fives, getting the whole room to sing, or even just the simple celebration of sliding a free birthday drink across the counter, one of our favorite things is to celebrate people and make them feel loved and valued.

Aaaaaaand we know that there have been a lot of thoughts shared and posted over the last month about our favorite guy but we had to stop and take a minute yet again to celebrate the birth and subsequent 43 sun rotations Salvador Sanchez has been on this earth.

It feels easy to celebrate someone who has invested in so many people’s lives. Something about Sal is that he can find a way to connect to anyone. Sometimes it’s been through a common interest like tennis, bourbon or a show like Game of Thrones. Other times (and maybe most often) it would be through his juvenile joviality, always quick to loop people into his joke of the day, month, year, or lifetime. The relationships that have grown because of the connections he’s made are a huge part of this community the last almost 13 years.

So today we wish a big ol’ Feliz Cumpleaños to Salvador! We’re incredibly grateful to know him, joke with him, roll our eyes at him, high five him, and laugh with him. And we are honored to get to celebrate him on his birthday one last time here at the shop.

Sal will be around the shop 9am - 11am and then we’ll have a little party here from 7pm - 9ish? to cap off the day for whoever is able to come! So bring some food to share, and come celebrate him one last time!

Tomorrow we celebrate Don on his birthday (6/4).

If you feel obliged join us at 11am at the shop, where we’ll be doing a beer in honor of Don and celebrate his life once again. If you’re not up for a full beer at 11am, we can improvise and find something else on the menu.

Then, we’ll hammer out those PM plans and have one more 🍺 at later in the evening.

Another cheers for this fine man that we called our Shop Grandpa.

Lots to think about lately (lots of thinkers over the years too).

We still don’t know the full future, but that’s okay. Sometimes it’s okay to live in a space where you don’t know or aren’t sure. Here’s what we do know; we’re going to still keep things business as usual until we know.

We’ll be as transparent as possible as we navigate these waters and we’ll keep the staff informed throughout the process so they have plenty of time to make decisions.

Best bet, if you have questions reach out to [email protected]
For now, is managing the shop.

And for our current business-as-usual task? We’re thinking about some more quiche. Maybe learning some recipes, maybe getting some sage advice, maybe upping the quiche game, or maybe just popping up pop-up ideas. Iykyk

What a wild, bananas, bonkers day?!?! Thanks to all those that came by and made it extra special.

Now, we rest a little bit and get right back at it tomorrow.

And come Thursday - we got Don’s bday as we remember him again. 11a cheers at Cup and a TBD time at West Sixth for one more cheers.

We’ve got some more nostalgia coming your way oh so soon.

Things aren’t special because they last forever. Actually, it’s the opposite.

The things we see every day naturally become part of the background and woven into our routine. We stop noticing them because we assume they will be there tomorrow.

It’s usually not until something changes that we realize how much it mattered.

Tomorrow is the start of big change. is clocking in as a barista for the last time.

For thirteen years, he’s unlocked the doors, turned on the lights, pulled shots (shots shots shots shots shots), and set the rhythm of the store. Through the drinks he made, the stories he shared, the people he introduced, the jokes he started, and the belief that Cup is just as much of a second home as it is a coffee shop.

The mission has always been to embrace community, serve others, and create culture.

Over the years, people have made friends here, found jobs here, celebrated milestones here, fallen in love here, grieved here, and felt like they belonged here. Salvador didn’t create all those moments himself, but he spent thirteen years creating the conditions for them to be possible to happen.

Soon he’ll be headed to New York and for new adventures, but tomorrow morning, he will be right where he has been since July 1st, 2013.

If you’ve been meaning to stop by to share a story or a drink with him, tomorrow may be the perfect day for that.

This nostalgic nightcap goes to some of the best.

We’ve been lucky to have had some of the best people (EVER) walk through our doors and sling coffee.
So often, we’re reminded how lucky, how special, how fortunate we’ve been.

So much change. So much uncertainties. But so much togetherness and trust in one another.
Ever grateful for this love and what was created. We’re a lucky bunch.

Today is our Alumni Reunion!

So, we have some fun hours today. Open to the public until 4p (yup - extra hours for you to get caffeinated)!

Then, staff reunion kicks off at 430p.

Aaaaand, we open our doors again at 530p until 7p (ish). It’ll be somewhat of a private party, so there’s a charge at the door, but then you’re welcome to drink as much as you can take before bedtime.

An excuse for everyone that has been through our doors to stop and connect with one another for a night of good times and making new memories.
