We seek to recreate a friendly Route 66 style cafe - and we are proud to have no TVs. We like making real food - right here - using lots of Grandma's recipes. We serve unique things like Fried Pickles, Green Tomatoes or a Chocolate Covered Cherry pie on Oil Cloth tablecloths. History:

The TEXAN CAFE began in 1996 in a small building along Highway 79 a few miles east of Hutto at the train stop of

Frameswitch. Out front, along the road stood "Ferdinand," a larger than life Hereford statue. As traffic increased and the road needed to be widened, the cafe was moved to Hutto. Part of Ferdinand - his head - was mounted on the top front of the building. In October of 2006 the cafe was purchased by the current owners Roger Joughin and Ron Yaudes. Hippos Everywhere
In 1915, a circus train stopped in Hutto and a hippopotamus escaped off the train to wallow in the cooling waters of nearby cottonwood creek. The engineer telegraphed ahead to "Hold the train - there's a hippo loose in Hutto." Thus began our claim to fame. In the 1920's the local school chose the Hippo as their mascot. Just down the block is "Henrietta" - a hippo statue that's great for family pictures. Check out our videos:
