El Barrio Repair Cafe turned 4, and they threw a celebration worthy of it 🎉

Repair Cafe Hudson Valley (with Rivertowns Repair Cafe ) came down to Manhattan to join in!

Activists, community builders, artists, musicians, storytellers and repairers from El Barrio to the Hudson Valley, all in one room. Plus one chihuahua keeping an eye on things 🐕

“Community building” may sound trite and overused. But it’s real and it’s effective. Repair culture isn’t just about fixing objects. It’s about mending and strengthening the fabric of our communities.

Hands-on help, hearts full! 🧵✨

Huge thanks to everyone who made the Irvington Repair Café at the EILEEN FISHER HQ such a success!!

Our amazing team of 25 fixers brought 146 out of 176 items back to life — from sweaters to lamps to well-loved treasures — for 87 wonderful guests. Shoutout to our 18 additional greeter volunteers who kept everything running smoothly!

📸 Kisook Suh of Tarrytown, textile conservator at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, working her magic on a sweater for Randy Paradise of Hastings. 🪡 Kisook Suh ‘s passion is when the guest is really involved and takes a hands-on approach to truly learning the repair. It’s part of our mission👏👏👏

Thank you Rivertowns Dispatch and Tim’s coverage of our work! Spreading the word 🙌

Repair, don’t replace. See you at the next one in October in Hastings! 💚

Anticonsumerism is no longer just a buzzword — it’s a movement. 🙌

🔧 Repair Cafes, the Buy Nothing Project, right to repair legislation, and tool libraries are all dedicated to repairing, trading, and giving instead of buying and throwing away.

New York State alone has 100 repair cafes — more than any other state in the U.S.

“We want to change the way that the world consumes.” — Liesl Clark, Buy Nothing founder
