Three ways the peanut butter fudge disappears around here. One, somebody "just checks if it's fresh" and a corner goes missing. Two, it rides shotgun on the drive home and doesn't make it past Cherokee. Three, it actually reaches the gift box. That third one's rare. A family came through around two yesterday, all sunburned from the train platform. The little one was melting down until Dana handed her a corner of chocolate pecan fudge to try. Quiet after that. Real chocolate fudge, toasted pecans set right into the slab, half-pound slices cut by hand the way we've done it since 1976. Three generations in, and it still does something to a hot June afternoon.

Everybody reaches for the fudge first. But peanut brittle is the candy dads actually circle back for — that snap, the buttery edges, the toasted peanuts packed in tight. We've been pulling it in copper kettles the same way since 1976. Father's Day is tomorrow (yeah, already). Tuesday around four, a fella named Marcus came in still in his hiking boots. He'd driven down from the Parkway and needed something for his dad before Sunday. We walked him through the case and he built a Custom 3 Chocolate Bar Sampler — coffee, pretzel, and a pure white for good measure. Then he grabbed a fourth. The copper kettle's been going since 7 this morning. Darlene stirs the chocolate batch by hand the same way her grandmother did back in '76, and you can smell it out on Everett Street before you reach the door. One question: do you eat the corner first, or save it? (No wrong answer, but the corner sets up a little firmer.) Fresh chocolate fudge, poured this morning.
