A DAILY CUP OF INSPIRATION, ENCOURAGEMENT, AND MOTIVATION WHILE YOU ENJOY YOUR COFFEE! Most of us can't fathom starting a day without a good cup of coffee.

I say you need a little something on the side with that morning cup. Taking a few moments to reflect on something positive can set the tone for your day. A thought, a song, a quote, a picture, a memory can do wonders to help keep the goblins at bay. Let me share this with you. In 2009 I lost my job of 20 years. Talk about being blindsided. I didn't see that coming. Soon enough though, I got over the shock. The way I saw it, it was was my time to do what I really wanted to do. I got busy envisioning my goals and making business plans. Within a week I was starting a LLC, designing a website, writing a book, meeting and networking. I was on my way to doing me! Little did I know that the waves of life were starting to rock and the perfect storm was on the horizon. I'm telling you, life came at me hard, knocking me every which way. Since I'm not here to glorify the struggle, I'll just say, but God! He gets the glory! I had to learn to encourage myself even in the midst of turmoil. Each morning I'd set the tone of my day with a thought of something positive or I may have stayed in the bed all day long. I'm here to tell you that you can stand through the storm. You can smile through the struggle. I'm a witness! Trust, I don't look like what I've been through. Ironically, I've had some of the best of times during my worst of times. Life is all about growth. I've learned that joy is an inside thing. All hell can break loose on the outside, but you can still have joy in the inside. And nobody can steal it unless you let them! Hence the beginning of Coffee with Candy. This page is to encourage, inspire, and to remind that life is always good. We don't have to wait for the next big thing to celebrate. We can celebrate life everyday. No matter who you are, where you are, you could be on the mountain top or in the valley low, there's always SOMETHING good to look forward to. Sometimes you just have to encourage yourself! Thank God for another chance each morning! So won't you join me in celebrating everyday life? Sit down with me with your cup of coffee in the morning. I take mine with cream and sugar. How do you like yours? By the way, I still believe in miracles. I expect one to happen everyday!

Do you know what day it is? ! I just found out that today is National Relaxation Day. Who knew? I didn't. I worked my shift this morning and had plans after work. But guess what? So much for plans. I'm home on the couch with my feet up. Chilling and relaxing!

Reminiscing . . .

Do you remember?

I remember a world where kids played outside. Hop scotch, jump rope, red light green light, jacks, sick ball. Kids had fun.

I remember a world with encyclopedias. If you needed to research something that's where you looked. Our family had the World Book Collection. Some families had the Britanica.

I remember a world where it was quiet in hospitals and nurses wore all white. And only 2 visitors allowed at a time.

I remember a world with typewriters and carbon copy paper for duplicates Typing 60 wpm with 3 errors or less was the goal post to be hired.

I remember a world where you not only knew your neighbors. but you knew the neighbors relatives who came to visit as well.

I remember a world where children respected adults. All adults, whether you knew them or not.

I remember a world when 3 people could sit in the front seat of the car. The gears were on the steering wheel. And cars had manual roll up and down windows.

I remember a world with double features at the movies. 2 blockbusters for $5. You could sit in the movies as long as you wanted to.

I remember a world where Sundays were church days. 9:00 Sunday school, 11:00 service and often back for a 4:00 service too.

I remember a world with Sunday blue laws. Stores, laundry mats, cleaners, all were closed.

I remember a world where there was a milk box at the front door and milk was delivered in glass bottles.

I remember a world where doctors made house calls. Your mother called and he showed up with his black bag.

I remember a world where visitors were always welcome. The door bell ringing wasn't a strange thing.

I remember a world where we had DVDs and going to Blockbusters on a Friday to get your selection of movies for the weekend.

I remember a world when TV went off at midnight and cartoons only came on on
Saturdays.

I remember a world where there was not a copay to see a doctor. Your insurance card was all you needed to be seen.

I remember a world where there was no such thing as a water bill or cable bill either.

I remember a world where there was no central air conditioning with only fans to cool off.

I remember a world where your employment had a nurse on site. If you felt sick at work you went to see the nurse. Depending on what was ailing you, you could lay on the couch or she would send you home.

I remember a world where people could smoke anywhere and everywhere. In the office, in a movie theater and even in a plane.

I remember a world where the biggest and most sought-after TV was a 25 inch Sony Triton.

I remember a world where the telephone was hung on the wall. I remember dialing 0 to reach the operator for a listed number. And getting a busy signal when trying to reach someone was a nuisance.

I remember a world with records, cassette tapes, 8 tracks, and CDs.

I remember a world where people got paid in cash.

My, my, my! Seen a whole lot of changes in the world. I guess you can say I'm seasoned. Lol! What do my other seasoned friends remember? What can you add to the list?

Happy Sunday y'all! Yellow is one of my favorite colors. Sunflowers are one my favorite flowers too. They stand tall and strong. Have you ever pondered on how many different types of flowers there are? There are more than 350,000 known species of flowers in the world. And the amazing thing is that they're all different. So many different shapes, types of petals, and colors. All of them beautiful to me. I've always loved flowers, but in my younger years I didn't fancy the sunflower much. I can appreciate the unique statuesque (tall, well proportioned, and dignified) beauty in them now that I'm older. As a matter of fact, I can appreciate a lot more in life the more "seasoned" I become. Just reflecting here. Life is wonderful and I'm grateful for it this morning!
