Public Domain Community Commissary & Event Space (c)To reform patterns of food production, distribution and consumption in New York City and beyond.

Our mission is to nourish body and mind by providing venues, open to all, where people can safely gather, healthfully dine and comfortably work together, while sharing knowledge and incubating community projects. We serve our mission by pursuing the following goals:

(a)To establish member owned and operated multi-use facilities focused on community building, conversation and education, where del

icious and healthful food is served on a donation basis. The food served emphasizes organic, locally grown, unprocessed ingredients supporting local farmers and promoting a healthy well informed population. (b)To nurture a more equitable society with a solidarity economy based on principles of mutual aid, sustainability and environmental justice. The decision making process of Public Domain will be in accordance with a non-hierarchical, cooperative model enacted by the members. Public Domain feeds people in need, reduces waste in the food industry, creates volunteer and employment opportunities, as well as providing a venue for skill-sharing workshops and education about food and food industry related issues.

What’s needed now are battalions of eco warriors with science degrees, gardening skills and the capacity to create zones of survival. We need to move beyond the world of the possible, and the maybe, and prepare for what may soon be urgent and imminent. Are we preparing “safe passage” documents for climate change refugees? Are the tents being tested and the food kitchens assembled? If not, why? From where will food and freedom come?

Thanks for the "like" everyone! Now please tell all your friends. We're gonna have a lot to share in the next three months and we'd love everyone to be a part of the process!

This has been a good first step, but we really do need your help! We can really make this happen together!

This is my first attempt at building a campaign for this project. I would greatly appreciate your suggestions and support. The idea for this space was incubated by members of the OWS People's Kitchen and our goal is to adhere to the principles of cooperative leadership. Your input and participation will make this happen. Thank you for your interest!
