I don’t normally feed into things like this. I usually let things roll off my back, and I’m pretty strong-willed about not letting others’ opinions or comments bother me. But this one hurt, and I couldn’t let it go without speaking up.
I want to address a review claiming we lied about running out of food and didn’t want to give someone a free meal today.
We planned to serve 250 community members and gave away over 250 spaghetti plates. Some people picked up meals for family members and shut-ins who couldn’t come themselves.
When the spaghetti ran out, I still had people in line. I didn’t want anyone to leave hungry, so I sent a family member to Walmart for cheese. I used the bread left from making garlic toast to make grilled cheese sandwiches and served them with French fries from my freezer.
When the bread ran out, I explained that fries were all I had left. Even though the meals were advertised as “while supplies last,” I kept cooking until every bag was gone. We gave away everything we could, down to the very last French fry.
Giving back is something we do throughout the year—whether it’s feeding teachers and school staff, donating several thousand dollars to Shop with a Cop, or supporting local sports programs so a child can play All-Stars without their family having to pay out of pocket for uniforms. Taking care of our community matters to us.
I would never intentionally withhold a plate of food from someone who needed it. If I had a spaghetti plate left, you would have received one.
To the person who left the review, I’m sorry you lost food during the storm, and I wish I’d had a full meal left for you. But saying we lied or simply didn’t want to feed you is not true. It hurts to read that after trying so hard to make what we had stretch to everyone still waiting.
Thank you to my family for helping us keep serving and to everyone who delivered meals to others. We’re thankful we could give back today, and we’ll continue doing what we can for the community we love. ❤️
