Day 62

Spent the whole day making a hole slightly bigger. Too small by a hair, and a hair is still wrong when a vent has to seat flat. Grind, test fit, grind, test fit. Eventually it seated.

The floor gap did not happen. Battery died mid cut, so the two by four is on the bench, measured and waiting.

Camping until Sunday. Then back to work.

Day 62 of 90. 28 days until someone orders a latte out of a 1971 horse trailer I paid two grand for.

Day 61

Took the weekend off. Came back to a supply run instead of a build day.

Picked up the bar fridge and lumber for the small gap in the floor. Not much to show for it, but the floor is what everything else sits on.

Tomorrow: blueprint and commissary agreement.

61 days in and some days the win is just having the parts in the truck.

Day 60

Finished the first front window and got most of the way through the second. Drilled all the new holes, set the rest of the trim, and had to grind one trim piece down before it would sit flush.

Still on the list: tighten the back ends and grind off the screw heads that never got a nut on them. Both windows get final touch ups before I call it done.

Tomorrow: gone for the weekend visiting family, so the tools stay put until next week.

Next week the blueprint goes in for review and the commissary agreement gets finalized. Sixty days down, thirty to go, and the outside is almost closed up. Everything after this happens on the inside.

Day 59

There is a screw head sitting in my trailer wall right now with no screw attached to it. Number seven. Twisted it in, felt the resistance, kept going, and the top of it just left.

Then it happened again. And again. Stainless is soft, a Phillips bit only holds on so long, and eventually something has to give. Turns out it’s the screw.

Started the morning at the hardware store buying the bolts I needed because yesterday’s rivets couldn’t reach through. Ended it with the first window mostly bolted, the second window fully drilled through metal, plexiglass, and trim, and a short list of screws I now have to extract.

Side trim tomorrow. Plus surgery on two holes.

31 days until this thing serves coffee. Every single day I learn something the hard way and then it stays learned.

Day 58

Twenty four holes. That’s the whole day. Twenty four holes through aluminum trim, plexiglass, and the side of a fifty five year old horse trailer, and I’m not even done drilling them.

Started by not having the right bit. Called my neighbor, he had one, handed it over. That’s the entire reason there’s footage today instead of me standing around.

The plan was rivets. The rivets don’t care about my plan. Three layers is too much stack for the gun to reach through, so it just sits there and does nothing while I pull the handle like it might change its mind.

Tomorrow: nuts and bolts sized to the holes I already made. Finish drilling, fasten both windows, move on. 58 down. 32 left.

Day 57

Three and a half hours on the coffee trailer today and the one thing I wanted to finish never got touched.

Started at Home Depot grabbing everything for the front windows, back doors, and roof vent. The back doors sat on the ground for years and picked up a bend, so I screwed in hooks and roped them to the middle pole to pull them flat again. No forcing it. It just has to sit there and learn.

Then the front windows. Plexiglass cut to the size of the opening, aluminum trim cut to match, forty five degree angles on every corner so it all closes into one clean piece.

Tomorrow: cutting the roof vent into a roof I just finished painting.

57 days in, 33 to go, and in a few days I find out if those doors actually pulled flat.

Day 56

Three hours today and the plan lasted about ten minutes. Went out to do paint touch ups and ended up putting color back over the entire trailer.

Then the gloss topcoat went on over all of it. The color was always the look. This coat is the armor.

Tomorrow: vent, back doors, flooring, or front windows. Comment which one I hit first.

56 days in, 34 to go, and this is the last time it looks like a trailer. Everything from here is interior.

Day 54

No sawdust today. Spent it at a desk instead, doing research and putting orders in. The fridge is bought and lands next week, and the fresh and grey water tanks are on their way.

Still need to make a Home Depot run for the plexiglass and metal trim for the front two windows. That is the last piece before those openings get closed up.

Tomorrow: back on the trailer, either hanging into the back doors or getting the clear topcoat on.

54 days in. Not every day is a build day, but a trailer full of parts I never got around to ordering would make for a pretty quiet coffee shop.

Day 53

Rest day. I did absolutely nothing on the trailer. No grinding, no welding, no research, no orders. Nothing.

Every Tuesday from here on out is a rest day. Fifty three days of chipping away at this thing will catch up with you, and a 90 day build gets finished by the guy who is still standing at Day 89.

Tomorrow: back on it, sourcing plexiglass for the front two windows.

53 days in and the smartest thing I did today was nothing.

Day 52

Back doors are on. Large hinges mounted on the inside of the doors, two per door, and I like that look better than anything I could have gotten on the outside.

Had to sand every hinge spot down to bare metal first. Turns out a weld won’t connect through paint.

Towed it back home at the end of the night. Still plenty left on the outside, but the back finally shuts.

Tomorrow: researching plexiglass for the front two windows so I can get them ordered.

52 days in.
