OMA had a groovy night celebrating the Boys & Girls Clubs of Kern County for ArtFest 2026 at the Vista Del Lago Estate. The night celebrated the incredible art created by the talented young artists who were inspired by the 1970s ArtFest theme. Last week, we were honored to join the Kern County Superintendent of Schools (KCSOS) in celebrating the dedication of the newly modernized C.W. Richardson Child Development Center. The Richardson Center provides full-day child development services and specialized early childhood education for children, ages 3-5, with special needs across Kern County. Students helped kick off the celebration with a special performance before touring the newly improved facility. We are proud to have been part of the campus-wide modernization that included expanded and remodeled administration building, classrooms, a multipurpose building, restrooms, and a new parking lot.

Day 5 of our Staff Appreciation Week and we’re finishing strong with lunch at Pyrenees Cafe celebrating 33 years of business. We then had a team tour of one of our current projects under construction, the 12,900-square-foot Fairfax SD Office.

Last week, Ordiz-Melby was honored to attend the ribbon cutting for one of our recent projects, The Nest at California State University, Bakersfield . As the architects on the project, we created a welcoming grocery story-inspired environment that provides students experiencing food insecurity with a dignified and accessible space. The design combines an expanded food pantry with dedicated support offices, all within a highly visible location near student housing and a primary campus entrance. The result is a resource that not only addresses food insecurity but also connects students with support they need to succeed academically and personally. Go Runners! 💙💛

🎉 We are excited to welcome Andrea Calderon to the Ordiz-Melby team as our new Building Information (BIM) Technician II. Andrea earned her degree in Architecture from UC Berkeley and returned home to Frazier Park. In her role, Andrea will continue developing her technical and design skills while gaining hands-on experience across the architectural profession. Working alongside our architects and project teams, she will be mentored, gain an understanding of project delivery, and work toward future licensure. We look forward to supporting her career journey and the value she will bring to our projects, clients, and communities.

🌮Taco ‘bout an amazing team! For day 2 of our Staff Appreciation Week, we celebrated our team with a delicious catered taco lunch. After lunch, the fun continued with a round of “Guess Who” as everyone tried to match fun facts to the team members who shared them. We are so grateful to have such a fun and collaborative team.

🎉 We are excited to welcome Diana Martinez to the Ordiz-Melby team as our new Building Information (BIM) Technician II. She started her education in architecture at Bakersfield College and transferred to NewSchool of Architecture & Design where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Architecture. With one year of architectural office experience, she will be involved in project experiences that will help her grow as an emerging professional. Through hands-on learning, she will continue building the technical, design, and project management skills that support her path toward licensure. We are excited to have Diana on our team and look forward to the contributions she will make as she helps create thoughtful solutions for our clients and communities.

In celebration of Ordiz-Melby Architects 33rd anniversary, we are taking this time to appreciate our staff this week. Day one, we celebrated our incredible team with breakfast pastries from Panera and a reminder that we’re better together. Our staff took time to recognize and appreciate one another, sharing notes about the many ways our colleagues support and collaborate with each other to succeed.
