Over a year ago, someone trusted me to make my very first paid cake.

I had no idea how much I would learn over the next year, how much my work would grow, or that one order would eventually turn into The Bee’s Knees Custom Cakes & Cookies.

It’s pretty incredible looking back at where I started—and even more exciting thinking about where this little business is going.

Now I get to create cakes and cookies for birthdays, weddings, showers, milestones, and all the celebrations in between.

So… why do I bake after bedtime?

Because before the kitchen lights come on, there’s a whole day happening. 🤍

There are fairs and adventures, bedtime routines, toys to pick up, dishes to clear, and three little boys who won’t be this little forever.

I love this little business I’m building. I have big dreams for where I want it to go. But I don’t want building those dreams to mean missing these years with them.

So I build it after bedtime.

When their day ends, Baking After Bedtime begins. 🎂

Cleveland sports, all the way around. ❤️🏈⚾🏀

This one definitely needed the full 360° view! Browns and Indians details came together in one custom cake, with something different to see from every angle.

One of my favorite parts of custom cake design is taking several ideas and figuring out how to make them feel like they were always meant to belong together.

I absolutely love making coordinating smash cakes. I don’t want them to just be tiny copies of the party cake I want them to have their own little personality while still clearly belonging together.

And then, of course, we hand it to a one-year-old and let them absolutely destroy it.

Inspiration is just the starting point. 🎨🎂

When you send me an inspiration photo, the goal isn’t to make an exact copy — it’s to take the elements you love and create something uniquely yours.

For this one, I took the peaceful lakeside theme and gave it a warmer, more colorful sunset feel, complete with textured trees, water, mountains, and a little canoe tucked into the scene. 🌅🛶🌲

And inside? Banana bread cake layered with banana custard filling. 🍌

One inspiration. Two completely different cakes. And that’s part of the fun of ordering custom. 💛

A cake with a little bite. 🐍🎂

This custom snake cake for Teddy’s 4th birthday was half chocolate, half vanilla with whipped chocolate ganache filling.

And the snake was completely edible, too. 🐍

The fairy cake is finished! 🧚✨

I’m still learning my way around this whole content-creation thing (camera placement is apparently a skill of its own 😂), but I absolutely loved watching this little cake come together.

And yes… it also survived a VERY unexpected test of my cake packaging. 😅

🐠 Under the Sea Bento Cake 🌊

One of the little cakes I got to create for my Bento Cake Special during the last two weeks of August!

What’s inside?
Buttery melt in your mouth vanilla sponge layered with homemade strawberry reduction and my silky-smooth mock Swiss meringue buttercream.

🐚🫧 Small cake, LOTS of detail. 💙🪸

There’s a whole lot that happens before the finished cake makes it to your feed. 🎂

Most of my work happens after my three little boys are asleep, when the house is finally quiet and I get a few uninterrupted hours to create.

So I thought it was time to start showing you more than just the finished product. The process, the learning, the problem solving, the occasional mistakes, and all the late nights that go into building The Bee’s Knees. 🐝
