The cancer fighting component of cruciferous vegetables is called sulforaphane. It is a byproduct that is created as the plant cells are broken down. People have touted kale as a superfood, but actually sulforaphane is most concentrated in broccoli sprouts.
Since it is created as the cells are broken down, you can freeze the sprout and the production increases exponentially. This is also very convenient for preservation and makes them a great addition to smoothies.

You can buy the sprouts at the grocery for exorbitant prices OR
Grow your own at home. Give them water once in the morning and once in the evening. Drain the excess water each time. It only takes 3-5 days to grow the sprouts.
Studies have shown sulforaphane is not only effective against cancer but it also has anti-aging, anti inflammatory and detoxifying properties.
