It’s hard to imagine how different this town was sixty-eight years ago. That was the year that Larry and Wanda McKittrick bought a donut shop, and rechristened it Mac’s Donuts. We are very proud to have lasted that long, and we just wanted to take a minute to thank all of you because without you we may not have lasted sixty-eight minutes.
Mom and I have decided to sell the shop, but the good news is that it will be in very good hands as two prominent local business men have stepped in to buy it. They will continue to use the name, and all our original recipes still making donuts in our old analog way. We couldn’t be happier to see the shop live on.
Our family wanted to thank you all, from the very bottom of our hearts, to have had this opportunity to serve all of you these many years As you can imagine, it is a bittersweet time for us. A small family business open for that long is a lifestyle, not a job. It is who we are.
We are proud to have called Aliquippa home these many years, because community has meant everything to us. When a national chain donut shop set up shop a quarter mile away, you guys showed up! When covid spread like wildfire through the food service industry, your loyalty kept our doors open. These are memories that we will always cherish, and we couldn’t begin to thank you enough for having our backs. We hope we were there for you too. This community and it’s people mean the world to us.
We’d also like to thank all the people who have worked there all those years. You know their faces, and probably their names. We couldn’t have done it without them.
So this weekend will be our last, and we hope you can stop by once more for us so that we can see you all and thank you in person.
Twila and Jw McKittrick
