We keep photos not just as memories, but because they are the last remnants of souls we loved with all our hearts.
This photo was taken on the day I said goodbye to my sister and traveled to Sweden. It was preceded by thirteen long years of absence and longing… then a short meeting that passed like a dream, followed by a farewell I never knew would be the last.
I didn’t realize that kiss would be the final one upon my cheek, nor that her embrace would become the only ’home’ I return to whenever I feel homesick.
Three years later… my sister left this world on a Tuesday, leaving a void in my heart that nothing can fill.
Some people never truly leave; they remain in the tone of a voice, in a sudden prayer, and in a picture that captures a lifetime of love.
My sister was a beautiful soul that absence can never erase. May God grant her vast mercy, lodge her in His spacious gardens, and make my reunion with her in Paradise more beautiful than any farewell.
