🌶️ Our Sloppy Joe's (Pizza Burgers) Got a Little Too Spicy — We Fixed It!

We owe our customers an apology.

Over the past month, some of our Pizza Burgers — what we know as Sloppy Joe’s back home — were much spicier than they were supposed to be.

We discovered that cayenne pepper had mistakenly been used in place of chili powder for a period of time. We then switched back to proper chili powder. Then, after we ran out of the McCormick chili powder our recipe was developed with, we switched to a locally sourced chili powder without realizing it was considerably hotter.

The result was a Pizza Burger with a lot more kick than we intended. 🔥

That was our mistake, and we’re sorry to anyone who ordered one expecting the usual rich, savory flavor and instead got an unexpected blast of heat.

We’ve now corrected the recipe and the seasoning we use. Our Pizza Burgers are back to being flavorful, meaty, cheesy, and only mildly spiced — the way they were originally intended.

So if you tried one recently and thought, “Why is this Pizza Burger suddenly so spicy?” 😅 please give us another try.

Thank you to everyone who supports American Bakeshop and to the customers whose feedback helps us catch and correct mistakes like this.

🍔 The heat is back down. The flavor is still turned up.
