This Christchurch grassroots organisation empowers people to participate fully in community life through social services, community cafes, wellness and educational programmes. Delta is about Community where people experience positive relationships and personal growth, and journey and grow together in all social, mental, physical and spiritual aspects of life. Community where people are empowered t

o fully participate in and contribute to community life. Community that uplifts people who face personal hardship, experiencing disability, isolation or other disadvantage. Our motivation comes from, and is in response to, the love of Jesus Christ, his message of hope and invitation to a new and renewed life, as depicted by the cross,. We seek to express what this means through who we are as an organisation. Who we are and what we Value. We are a motley bunch of people, volunteers, staff, board members, church and non-church goers and hangers-on committed to expressing and living out the values of Empowerment, Relationship, People, Community, Creativity, Inclusiveness, Faith and Holism. This body of people includes those involved with North Avon Baptist Church and Delta Community Church. What we do
We engage in community development through a varied range of services, initiatives and activities carried out through three Service Departments

1. Community Development Services: Personal Advocacy, Counselling & Budget Advice, Food Store (food bank with a difference), Empowerment (personal development and foundational skills) Courses, Community Café (Footprints Café) and Delta Inn community meal, Migrant & Refugee support (including Play Group and Social English Language Classes), Volunteer opportunities/support, Richmond Community Action Network & related initiatives, Delta Community Garden and Craft/support Group.
2. Delta Friendship Link: Friendship linking social & skills groups and one-to-one friendship for people with intellectual and psychiatric disability.
3. The Evergreen Club: Weekday activity programme for vulnerable and isolated elderly, most of whom are living in their own homes, some supported by partners or other family and some living on their own.

THURSDAY IS OUR FAVOURITE NIGHT OF THE WEEK.
And it’s all because of Thursday Kai Club.
For the past four months, an incredible team of talented chefs and volunteers have been working hard to bring this vision to life — a place where whānau can come for good kai, connection and belonging.
Because when life is tough, having somewhere to go, people to connect with, and a table where you are welcome matters.
And we know life is tough for many families.
In Aotearoa, 1 in 5 children live in households where food runs out sometimes or often.
That’s why food security is an important part of Thursday Kai Club — and why kids under 12 eat free. We want good, nutritious kai to be accessible to every whānau.
But it’s about more than food. It’s about sitting around a table. It’s about meeting people. It’s about children feeling included. It’s about whānau having somewhere they can belong.
That’s community. And that’s Delta.
This week, thanks to Z Energy’s Good in the Hood, we’ve been given the opportunity to shine a light on the incredible mahi happening every Thursday at Delta.

Welcome to Craft & Chat!

Our team has been reimagining our ladies’ craft group, and we’re excited to announce that it’s back on Thursday 3 September – with a fresh new name and a fresh new feel!

Welcome to Craft & Chat – a creative class centred around connection, community, conversation and creativity, open to all ladies, with a special welcome to those whose first language is not English.

This is a warm, welcoming and relaxed space where you can make friends, have a chat and let your creative side loose. There’ll be guided craft activities to get you started, but you’re also welcome to bring along your own craft project and work on that instead.

Whether you’re a seasoned crafter or haven’t picked up a paintbrush, needle or glue gun for years – come along, have a cuppa and enjoy some creative time with other women.

Spaces are limited, and while Craft & Chat is a drop-in class, we do need to know you’re coming so we can make sure we have enough materials for everyone.

WE’RE IN GOOD IN THE HOOD!
We’re incredibly excited to share that Delta Community Support Trust’s Thursday Kai Club has been selected for Z Energy’s Good in the Hood 2026!
And we’d love your vote!
Thursday Kai Club is a Delta community café where every person matters — It brings whānau and friends together over good kai, connection and community.
With a $10 family dinner and kids eating free, Thursday Kai Club helps address food insecurity by making nutritious meals accessible to families who are struggling with the rising cost of food. It’s about more than a meal — it’s about reducing pressure, strengthening connection and ensuring families have a place where they feel welcome and valued.
Now we have the chance to receive a share of $5,000 through Good in the Hood, based on the number of votes we receive.

We warmly invite you to join us for a wonderfully affordable and super tasty chef cooked donner tonight down at Delta. The Thursday Kai Club continues to grow in popularity as we want you to become part of the club. Nothing makes Sandy happier than getting a group of people together in the kitchen and a sharing with them some tips, tricks, inspiration and recipes that inspire people to experiment and cook. And when it's all blokes... the fun, the laughs and the learning is just awesome.
Check out this recent message she received from a bloke who took one of these classes recently; "I went walking this morning and was thinking how much more satisfying my life is now after having taken cooking classes with you. I now look for recipes that I will enjoy, but tonight I will use your honey mustard pork chop recipe that both my wife and I enjoy. I just wanted to thank you for those lessons." Tim B.

Do you have a garden, windowsill, or you are a keen gardener, would you be willing to help out Satisfy Food Rescue (one of our key food supply partners) to grow some cuttings or donate spare plants?
They're after houseplants, herbs, vegetables, edibles, flowers, seeds - pretty much anything!
If you can grow some plants for them - get them delivered to Delta by Wed 16 September and deliver them to Satisfy.
Check out the poster - it will be a fun family day out.

This afternoon at Delta, it' a all about soup. Cost effective, hearty, healthy and a great way to use up ANYTHING! We'll prove that this afternoon when we make a super tasty lettuce and potato soup. We will explore the power punch of homemade chicken stock and enjoy a velvety creamy mushroom soup too.
