Many people want to sell, but very few people take time to study the people they are selling to. This is where many businesses fail.
Before money enters your hand, a relationship must first enter the heart of your customer.
That is why understanding your customer profile is very important if you want to build a business that sells today and continues selling tomorrow.
A customer profile simply means knowing the kind of people that buy from you. You must understand:
Who they are
Where they live
What they need
How they talk
What they value
And how they make buying decisions
When you understand these things, selling becomes easier because you are no longer guessing. Let me use my palm oil business as an example.
Over time, I discovered that selling palm oil is not just about posting pictures of gallons online. It is about understanding the people who are buying the oil.
Some of my customers are:
Food vendors
Restaurant owner
Traders who resell
Each of these people has different needs and different personalities. So I started paying attention to small details.
I make sure I know their names.
I know their location.
I observe how they communicate.
Some customers like long explanations.
Some like short direct messages. Some want to ask many questions before buying. Some trust you immediately and just send payment.
If you pay attention to these behavioural patterns, you will know how to talk to each customer in a way that makes them comfortable. This is how relationships are built.
In today's digital generation, this is even more important. People are no longer just buying products. They are buying from people they like, people they trust, and people they feel connected to.
That is why two people can sell the same product online, but one person will have more customers. The difference is relationship and trust. When your customer feels respected and remembered, something powerful happens.
They begin to:
Trust your business
Buy from you again
Recommend you to their friends
Defend your brand when others doubt you
In simple terms, one satisfied customer can open the door to ten more customers. But it starts with how you treat that one person.
Call them by their name.
Ask how business is going.
Deliver what you promised.
Follow up after the sale.
These small things may look ordinary, but in business they are powerful relationship assets. Many people are chasing new customers every day but forget the ones that already trust them.
Smart business people do the opposite. They protect their existing customers because a loyal customer is more valuable than ten strangers.
If you want your business to grow in this generation of social media and online marketing, learn this principle: Don't just look for buyers. Build relationships with people.
Because people may forget what you sold to them, But they will never forget how you made them feel while doing business with you.
