For close to a month now, it has been difficult to find pepper and tomatoes to buy around where our farm is located. I keep wondering whether these commodities are no longer available in nearby markets like Okolo and Ido Market for sellers to purchase from.

The reality is that pepper and tomatoes are currently selling at very high prices, and honestly, I am happy for every farmer who has them available for sale at this time.

However, growing pepper and tomatoes that can survive, produce well, and be harvested during this period is not easy at all. It requires serious investment in time, money, and technical knowledge.

To those who are motivated to venture into vegetable farming because of the current market prices, my advice is simple: make your calculations very well, otherwise you may end up farming at a loss.

Vegetable farming is capital intensive. You cannot go into it without proper irrigation in place. Inputs such as fertilizers, pesticides, insecticides, fungicides, and nematicides must be adequately provided and properly managed with the right knowledge.

Vegetable farming is never a cheap venture. Grow only what you can effectively manage and maintain.

We rest on Sunday, and now Monday marks the beginning of a new week of work and business. May God bless the work of our hands and grant us success in all we do.

Let’s step into this week with purpose, diligence, and faith. 💼✨

🌶🍅 Pepper & Tomato Are Not Beginner Crops

Farming is business _ not guesswork.

Pepper and tomato may look profitable, but they require:
✔ Constant monitoring
✔ Strong pest & disease control
✔ Proper nutrient management
✔ Technical know-how

Unlike cassava or maize, you can’t just plant and leave them.

From nursery stage to fruiting, the pressure is high _ fungi, insects, nutrient issues… and any delay can reduce your yield drastically.

Our advice?

Start small. Learn the crop. Budget well. Manage actively. Then scale.
Smart farming reduces risk. 🌱

🌧️ Smart Farmers Don’t Guess - They Plan With Data! 🌱

As a farmer or agripreneur who truly wants to maximize profit this farming season, one important tool you must not ignore is the annual rainfall prediction report from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet).

The Seasonal Climate Prediction (SCP) report provides valuable insights on:

✔️ Expected rainfall patterns
✔️ Onset and cessation dates
✔️ Possible dry spells
✔️ Flood risk areas
✔️ Length of growing season

This information helps you:
🌾 Plant at the right time
📍 Choose the right crop varieties
⚠️ Anticipate climate threats early
💰 Turn weather risks into profitable opportunities

Let’s be honest _ weather forecasts may not be 100% accurate, but they are backed by scientific research and expert analysis. Ignoring them completely can be costly.
Faith is important. But wisdom is profitable.
Use both.

This farming year, don’t plant blindly.
Plant strategically. 🌱

🌱 Measure Before You Apply!

Many farmers overlook proper measurement when applying agro-chemicals. Some believe that “the higher the quantity, the better the result.” This is wrong.

❌ Overdose can burn leaves and roots, cause wilting, reduce yield, or even kill the crop.
❌ Underdose can lead to poor pest control, weak growth, and low harvest.

If you’re buying liquid chemicals, use the measuring cap provided. For powdered products, use a kitchen scale for accuracy.

📖 Always read and follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Correct measurement protects your crops, your soil, and your profit.
Smart farming is measured farming 🌾

Learning Is A Continuous Process.

Today, we observed firsthand how cassava is processed into garri. While this is not our first exposure to the process, each experience deepens our understanding and sharpens our approach. Every detail matters when the goal is to deliver quality, efficiency, and consistency.

These moments of observation help us rethink, refine, and design better ways to process garri that meet high standards and serve our community better. Growth comes from intentional learning and a willingness to improve.

By God’s grace, before the end of this year, YeaFarm will officially step into cassava processing. This is more than a plan_it is a vision steadily becoming reality.

Step by step, we remain committed to value addition, food security, and sustainable agribusiness development.

At YeaFarm, we understand that profitable farming is no longer about planting more_it’s about managing costs wisely.
This year, many farmers are facing a tough reality: produce prices are dropping, while farm inputs such as tools, fertilizers, sprayers, and agro-chemicals are either increasing or staying high. Without proper cost control, profit margins quickly disappear.

One timeless lesson we’ve learned from experienced farmers is the importance of self-sufficiency. Many old farmers reduce expenses by processing part of their harvest to feed themselves and their workers_turning maize into pap, cassava into garri or elubo. This simple practice significantly reduces daily feeding costs and protects farm income.

Another advantage is planting materials. Saving seeds and cassava stems from previous harvests helps farmers avoid unnecessary spending each season.
New farmers must intentionally position themselves to benefit from this practice or risk losing profits to repeated input purchases.

Farming is a business, and at YeaFarm, we believe sustainability comes from smart decisions, not just capital. Our focus is to have value addition, cost efficiency, and long-term food security.

Yesterday’s rain got me thinking… 🌧️

‎As the rain fell yesterday, I remembered two different predictions I heard about farming this year.

‎The first person said rain will come early, and truly, we are already seeing the signs. For farmers_especially cassava farmers this means one thing: preparation is key. Land preparation should not wait. Once the rain becomes stable, planting should begin immediately to take advantage of the season.

‎The second person said this year will be a year of bountiful harvest, a time when food will be surplus. While that sounds like good news, a serious question came to my mind:

‎How will farmers really make it this year?
‎Many farmers are still struggling to recover from last year’s losses_high input costs, poor yields, falling price of agro-commodities, and unstable markets.

‎ A surplus without proper planning can also mean low prices and reduced profit.
‎This is why this farming season calls for wisdom, strategy, and proper planning.

‎Plan what to plant.
‎Plan when to plant.
‎Plan how to sell.

‎Farming success this year will not come by chance_it will come by deliberate decisions.

‎As we prepare to farm this year, let’s farm with knowledge, not assumptions.

Farming for Profit: 4 Things Every Smart Farmer Must Get Right 🌱💰

‎Running a profitable farm is not just about planting and harvesting. It’s about making informed decisions before, during, and after production. Here are 4 key factors every farmer must pay close attention to:

‎1️⃣ Know the Demand

‎Before you cultivate any crop, study the market first.
‎Ask yourself:

‎Is this crop in high demand?

‎Is the demand stable now and in the future?

‎📌 Rule of thumb: The higher the demand, the higher the opportunity to supply and earn.
‎Avoid investing heavily in crops with little or uncertain demand.

‎2️⃣ Get the Timing Right

‎Timing can make or break your profit.
‎Plan your production so that your harvest comes when supply is low.

‎🌞 Dry season farming often brings higher prices because fewer farmers are producing_this alone can significantly boost income.

‎3️⃣ Understand Your Target Market & Customer

‎Not all markets pay the same.
‎Where you sell matters as much as what you grow.

‎🥬 Farmers who supply supermarkets, eateries, hotels, and urban buyers often earn more than those selling only in open markets.
‎Know who you are producing for and tailor your farming to their needs.

‎4️⃣ Manage Your Cost Wisely

‎Profit is not only about selling high_it’s also about spending smart.

‎✔ Reduce costs in:

‎*Input sourcing

‎*Labour

‎*Transportation

‎*Marketing

‎💡 Combine activities where possible.
‎For example, if the market you supply can also help you access farm inputs, you save on double transportation and logistics costs.

‎📷 This image shows our dried okro, when fresh okra prices crashed. Value addition helped reduce losses and preserve income.

‎👉 Farming is a business. When you understand demand, timing, market, and cost, profit becomes predictable, not accidental.

21/11/2025

‎In 2023, the Nigerian Government stopped the production of ParaForce, the major selling product of Global Alliance for Chemical Industries (GACI), popularly known as Jubaili.

‎But unfortunately, this same banned product is still circulating in our markets, imported from neighbouring countries. How can a product banned from production in Nigeria still be allowed into our borders? Many workers were layoff from this company,in the States they operates because of stopping their hotcake product.

‎Today, the price of ParaForce is high. Many other farm inputs are also very costly, yet our farm produce still sells at cheap prices. Farmers are squeezed on every side.

‎Government at all levels must rise to ameliorate the suffering of farmers by supplying farm inputs free or at affordable rates.

‎As we approach 2026, we need real support, not temporary measures. Importing agro-commodities to counter price surges is not a lasting solution.

‎Let us improve, strengthen, and promote our own agricultural sector. Nigeria can finance her budget through agriculture alone if properly supported.

‎ERUWA & IDO: The Cassava Powerhouse of Ibadan 🌾🚜

‎Eruwa and Ido farms have long been the major suppliers of cassava to Ibadan. Every blessed day, trailers convey tons of cassava from these communities to the city, feeding industries, processors, and markets.

‎Farming along this axis (Ido and Eruwa roads) gives a sure assurance of selling your cassava, no matter the situation. To maximize profits, it’s ideal to farm in larger quantities or locate your farm near other cassava farms so that trailers can easily pick up your produce in bulk.

‎Having products to sell and a secured supplier base, there’s no greater joy that pass this for a farmer. 🌿💪
